Editorial Review:
International pressing of her fourth studio album features one bonus track, 'I Belong to Me'. Jessica boasts songwriting skills on 9 out of 12 tracks from the new album, which is produced by the most sought-after producers: Lester Mendez, Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, Cory Rooney, Scott Storch and Stargate. The 1st single's videoclip is directed by Brett Ratner of X-Men fame a star-studded video chronicling a fun night out with Jessica and her celebrity friends. In the clip, Jessica Simpson is joined by Eva Longoria, Christina Applegate, Christina Milian, Maria Menounos, Andy Dick & Ryan Seacrest. Sony. 2006.

A Public Affair Reviews:
can't wait to review this. 1 Star Review
2009-11-09 - i would love to review this product.BUT I NEVER RECEIVED IT IN THE MAIL! STILL WAITING!!!!!!

3-1/2 stars -- Sweet liberation 3 Star Review
2007-04-15 - Unlike her former partner, Jessica Simpson didn't deliver a depressing album full of heartbreak after the divorce was finalized (probably because she's the one that filed for divorce). While A Public Affair isn't her best album (see Irresistible for that), there are still enough good songs to find.

This is another one of those cases where I looked at the other reviews (well, the reviews of the album's original release, anyway) and now I'm wondering if those are the kind of reviewers that think one star and five stars are the only options. Anyway, some people may be wondering why Jess re-released this album just to add "I Belong to Me". Well, I'll briefly compare Jessica to Shakira. After Shakira released "Don't Bother" back in 2005, it didn't become as big a hit as the record company anticipated, so they quickly added on "Hips Don't Lie" and thus created a hit, which in turn helped the album sell more. That's probably what Sony tried to do HERE, but it didn't work. Moreover, things worked out backwards: the title track hit the top 20, while "I Belong to Me" didn't even chart.

But it's still a good song, as are all of the mellow songs, like "I Don't Want to Care", "Between You & I" and "Back to You". Jessica also tries her hand at a few remakes: Patty Griffin's "Let Him Fly" is fine, but Dead or Alive's "You Spin Me `Round" neither helps nor hurts the album. One other thing I noticed is that when Jess goes for club anthems for the ladies, she hits (the title track) and misses ("Fired Up").

There are also a couple of songs that sound like they were left off the Dukes of Hazzard soundtrack: the tolerable "Swing With Me" and the skippable "Push Your Tush". As I said before, A Public Affair isn't Jessica's best album, but it's still decent enough for casual listeners (and she's still nice to look at, too).

She could have done much better 3 Star Review
2006-11-11 - Growing up during (and being marketed to since I happened to be the age that labels kept shoving bubblegum to) the age of the teen pop music boom I got used to the musical musings of Britney Spears (of course) and the like. Since Jessica Simpson never garnered much attention at the start of her career I didn't hear about her until "I Think I'm In Love With You" first started making waves on Top 40 radio. I could tell she had a great song on her hands and singing abilities that deserved a second listen so I purchased Sweet Kisses. Man, did it disappoint! Having been accustomed to the trashy but guilty pleasures of Britney (the infamous first single "...Baby One More Time") and the not-as-popular (I never really got into her music) Christina (the sometimes good-sometimes off "Genie") Jessica Simpson's debut album didn't make the cut. It has some good songs, like the aforementioned "I Think I'm In Love With You," "I Wanna Be With You" and the duet with Nick Lachey. But everything else sounded so boring, bland and just like filler I didn't know what to think about Simpson. She was obviously a good singer (in THOSE days, I'll add) but she just didn't seem like she was given enough good material (or coverage) to dominate global entertainment media like Britney Spears. Three albums later, her latest attempt A Public Affair possesses the same problem that each of Jessica's albums have had; it's just all right and mediocre. I expected a MUCH better listen since she's had three years of media blitz (after garnering infamy with that famous TV show with ex-hubby Lachey) which could give her the opportunity to access the top producers and songwriters in pop music. Unfortunately A Public Affair, though public, isn't necessarily a good affair. Title track and lead single is good--but it sounds so much like Madonna's "Holiday" it's hard to see what people were thinking when it was created (since it'd obviously get such a reaction from the public). The disc isn't necessarily a horrible one by any means, it's just bland and typical unmemorable fluff--Simpson delves into the current 80s-reminsicent craze of music evident throughout A Public Affair. "The Lover In Me" is another good track (by-download-only "I Belong to Me" is all right as well, but should be a feature on the disc instead of a download after it's purchased); but that's about it. "Fired" sounds so much like a thrown-out Britney track (and so club-minded for Simpson) it's hard to see how it fits onto A Public Affair, which borders the pop and country-pop genres. The worst song on record is the embarrassing "Push Your Tush." Jessica, what were you thinking? You don't have to lower yourself to saying "cock-a-doodle-doo!" Jessica Simpson's albums might be consistent, but they're always affected because they never seem to have that big hit single. She could have been so much better considering how over-hyped she is these days. Post-divorce Jessica might be a very public affair, but it's not necessarily a good one.

Is it worth it for the bonus track??? 4 Star Review
2006-09-29 - So, you may be wondering if you should drop the extra bux for one extra track on this import. "I Belong To Me", track 14, is penned by well-known writer Diane Warren, runs 3 minutes and 40 seconds, and is what you'd expect from a Jessica Simpson slow jam: catchy melody, light hand clap rhythm track, sweetly hokey and lush orchestration. The vocal performance is mellow, except for some slight Jessica wailing at the end of the song. Best way to describe it: it's like one of the recent final songs written for the last two American Idols standing....usually, the judges will all say, 'loved you, hated the song,' or 'your performance was great, but the song is forgettable...."

BUT, if you are a Jessica fanatic, there's no excuse to not have this slightly expanded copy of A Public Affair.
