Editorial Review:
That Jessica Simpson has been groomed to become the next (as well as younger, whiter, and more virginal) Mariah Carey should come as no great shock. Production by slavish imitation is the way it goes these days, and wanting to duplicate Carey's success is understandable. Yet the downside of idol worship (Simpson grew up with the octave-conquering diva as a touchstone) is the loss of unique identity, and sadly that's exactly what has occurred. From the wordless sighs to the mock Spanish guitars added for international appeal, to the overwrought power ballads and faux hip-hop flavored up-tempo cuts, Simpson, who can sing, is a prisoner of by-the-numbers production and songs by the usual pop/R&B-lite suspects. The end result is sonically stellar, but is too close to a generic endeavor that does little to establish Simpson as an artist. Still, Irresistible will no doubt firm up her already serious stats as a rising young star. --Amy Linden
Irresistible Reviews:
Review by the wife
2009-06-22 - Irresistible
Not only does Jessica look good but she sounds good too, very underestimated singer!
She can sing Ballards just aswell as Pop or even Raunchy songs, she's more versatile than some give her credit for!
If people can look past her looks they will discover an eventual great singer!
Her Best Effort yet
2009-04-16 - There's been alot of Buzz about Jessica Simpson, in recent monthes. First for the big country debut(which got alot of buzz but mixed reviews), and then for the recent emeinem video. I decided to actually take a look back at some of Jessica Simpson's back catalouge. I remembered that she's always been a popular singer with some hits, but her or christina could never reach the popularity of Britney. To me, Jessica's first album, average, A public Affair, horrible, and in this skin is kind of dull, too girly. But when I listened to this album, it brought me back to junior high and I forgot how big the first two singles were. A little bit didn't chart high but it was all over the now cd's and tv commercials. Irresistible honestly had to be one of the biggest songs that summer. It's funny looking back, because people took her more seriously then.Because she never embarrassed herself on national tv. Now she's just a pop culture figure. Anyways, This cd is her best effort. I was really surprised. The first three singles start off with a bang, and then His Eye is on the Sparrow was well sung and beautifully written. I also thought a hidden gem was Hot like fire. It's corny, but it works, its funny and it's got some great uptempo beats. I think Jessica should have really stuck with an R AND B type sound. I read she doesn't feel comfortable with it, but I think her career could really benefit from it, because the only person doing a similiar thing is Mariah Carey. And Mariah's selling out the masses. To me this is the quintessential pop album for that time. If you looked up pop album in the early 00's this cover would in that definition. Overall, this is her best effort and I think this was really her first big album.(the one before just got some buzz and little bit of airplay). If you like pop music then this should be for you!
A good starting point
2009-04-12 - The lyrics tell stories and paint melodramatic portraits of relationship ups and downs which I and many others can relate to. This album is more consistent and up tempo than some of her later albums. I like this album alot. I listen to it almost everyday since I bought it. Her voice is hypnotic and wonderful. The music on this album is very catchy. Who ever put together the beats and keyboards is a beast! This is a nice break from the heavy metal I am always bumping. If you want an album by her check this out first before you deviate to her later albums.
Complete garbage!
2007-11-19 - Jessica Simpson's second album Irresistible is an awful and over-produced pop album. There are only 2 good tracks, What's It Gonna Be and For Your Love. The rest of the album is silly and soulless. This album flopped and it's not hard to see why. Leave this one in the dumpster.
Bland, boring
2007-11-05 - Compared to Mandy Moore, Simpson's voice is bland and always sounds the same. The music is also boring. That's all I have to say. This music is really bad, and I don't mean that in a "good" way.
