Editorial Review:
Jewel has concocted an intriguing and at times beautifully inspired holiday album, playing it straight with a big orchestra and backing voices for the first half of the record with standards such as "Joy to the World," "Winter Wonderland," "Silent Night," as well as a lovely rendition of "Ave Maria." Things finally get sparkling in the last half where Jewel does a low-key, kid version of "Rudolph" and sings her own compositions. Her moving "Face of Love" and "Hands" are certain to become holiday standards, capable of being sung in a country, pop, gospel, or R&B vein and deserving of an audience as wide as the nation itself. The record's centerpiece, however, seems to be a six-minute-plus medley that mixes "Go Tell It on the Mountain" with the recent hit "From a Distance" and her own "Life Uncommon." Nonetheless, her stunning adaptation of "Gloria" inspired, in part, by Bach's B-Minor Mass, two tracks later is as powerful and lovely a Christmas vocal performance as you will find anywhere. Produced by the legendary Arif Mardin, Joy is destined to become a holiday classic. --Martin Keller
Joy - A Holiday Collection Reviews:
The voice of an angel!
2009-12-07 - This is by far, hands down, my favorite Christmas album. It seems that most of the Christmas albums, the singer has to put their own "twist" or "sound" to the song. When they do that, they ruin the song and it's unlistenable. That really grates on my nerves.
That being said, Jewel doesn't do that. She sings with perfect pitch and sings the song they way it should be and was meant to be sung. Her voice is crisp and clear and is pleasant to listen to and will put you in the Christmas mood. If you get this, I can promise that you won't be sorry, I know I wasn't. This will become your Holiday "go to" album.
Jewel has the voice of an angel.
One of the best!
2009-11-28 - I actually discovered this CD a few years ago and it's one of my absolute favorite Christmas CDs. Jewel's voice is amazing!

2009-11-04 - I love it, especially Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. As good as Jewels other cd's.
It's Cool
2009-10-24 - This CD is awesome. I could only sometimes find recordings of Christian music that was satisfying. I would recommend it. I think Jewel is a really excellent composer. Key tracks are: Joy to the World, O Holy Night, Silent Night, Hark the Herald Angels Sing and Hands.
