Editorial Review:
The final season of In Living Color was as outrageous as the first four, having thrust its courageous cast into stardom, especially Jamie Foxx, David Alan Grier, Chris Rock and Jim Carrey. As usual, nothing was sacred and no public figure was safe, as the hilarious sketches challenged censors and viewers with piercing parody. So bid a fond farewell to one of the freshest, funniest sketch shows of all time with this this 3-disc Collector's Edition, featuring all 26 hilarious Season Five episodes.
Description of In Living Color - Season 5:
Nothing seems to divide a TV show's fan base more than its final season, and in the case of the fearless sketch comedy series In Living Color, there's no exception. Some feel that despite the departure of series creator Keenan Ivory Wayans, siblings/co-stars Damon, Kim, and Shawn, and standout castmate Kelly Coffield (as well as "Fly Girl" Jennifer Lopez) in the fourth season, the show still had some of its old fire, and that's evident from several of the sketches collected in this box, including several "Dirty Dozens" sketches, "The B.S. Brothers Talk Show," and "East Hollywood Squares" (with Hollywood Squares host Peter Marshall once again as host) The other side of the debate contends that the show had either suffered from too much intervention from the Fox Network (which had taken a more hands-on approach to the show shortly before the Wayans jumped ship), or had simply run out of gas by its 1993-94 season, and its once-fresh characters and concepts had turned from cutting-edge to offensive for offensive's sake. And that's evident on this set as well: Jim Carrey's Fire Marshall Bill seems more forced than ever, and spoofs of Ike Turner, Barney, and other pop culture piƱatas seem like easy targets that would've been overlooked in earlier seasons. Still, there are laughs to be found in season 5, and when it works, the comedy contained here is brighter and more outrageous than most of what passes for sketch comedy on television today. No extras are included in the three double-sided-disc set, though a wealth of comedy and musical guest stars, including Chris Rock, Johnny Gill, Shaquille O'Neal, US3, and others add some sparkle to the episodes. --Paul Gaita
In Living Color - Season 5 Reviews:
Butchered! Edited! Dont waste your money!
2009-08-28 - Sketches are cut, most notably when they sing. This is insulting to those of us who paid for what we didnt get!
Not bad...
2008-11-30 - Old Fare...the series had become tired by now. I bought it to round off the entire 5 seasons for my collection.
Just as Good as the First Four!!!
2008-11-13 - Jim Carrey and Jamie Foxx are a riot as always. Chris Rock only adds to the hilarity. I loved this season! It is definitely worth the buy!
Very good but had one disappointment
2008-10-14 - Very good but I was disappointed to find out
the "Droop There it is" song is not on any of
the discs. I bought Season 5 especially to
have that hilarious song as I am getting older.
I wonder why they cut it out of this.
IN LIVING COLOR SEASON 5
