Description of The Mask (New Line Platinum Series):
For a film heavily dependent on special effects, the best effect going in this 1994 comedy is the ever-expressive star, Jim Carrey, playing a shy bank teller who stumbles across an ancient mask that turns him into a green hepcat with extraordinary powers. Cameron Diaz plays the love interest, but the real purpose of the movie is to bring cartoonish energy and effects into a live-action production. Toward that end, director Charles Russell does the job, but the gimmick wears out quickly for those easily bored by this sort of pseudo-animation. Lots of kids adore the film, though, and why not? The hero gets to be a whirlwind of mischief and still get the girl. --Tom Keogh

The Mask (New Line Platinum Series) Reviews:
S-S-S-S-MMMMMMMMMMOOOOOOOOOOKKKKKKIN' HOT FUN. 5 Star Review
2009-11-08 - One of Jim Carrey's early movies, and the one that catapaulted him to stardom, is S-S-S-S-S-S-S-S-S-SMMMMMMMMMMMMMOOOKIN' HOT FUN. Carrey is absolute L-M-F-A-O. Cameron Diaz, in her first film, is a visual treat and perfect as Tina, the woman who may not be what she initially seems to be. Amy Yasbeck, an over-the-top Marian in the Robin Hood parody "Robin Hood: Men In Tights," is mysterious and also may not seem to be who she initially appears to be. Peter Riegert, a nut case in "National Lampoon's Animal House," is devious as the nasty Dorian. One of my favourite moments is-SPOILER-when The Mask is dancing at the "Coco Bongo." I especially loved Lt. Kallaway and Doyle, specifically during the park scene and the swingin' aftermath. Hilarious, and semi-serious, from start to finish. The special features are somewhat disappointing, as there's no director commentary for the deleted scenes, which I think should have been kept in the movie. Also, the picture quality of the deleted scenes wasn't very good. I highly recommend the movie. If you like Jim Carrey or Cameron Diaz, you'll LLLLOOOOOOOOOVVVVVVEEEEEEEEE
THIS MOVIE. Grooovvvvvvvvvy, baby. Rated PG-13, but should have been rated PG.

Do not buy this expensive upscaled DVD 1 Star Review
2009-10-22 - I'm going to be quick and direct with this review by saying:

You are not getting anything more from this Blu-Ray edition than from buying the much cheaper DVD version. The video in this product is simply upscaled from the DVD and is not actually remastered.

Do not experience the loss of money lost by people who have been scammed by these liars who release The Mask and Terminator movies on Blu-Ray which are not actually in high definition as one would believe.

    Delightful Comedy 4 Star Review
2009-10-09 - I've seen this hilarious, inventive, fast, crazy, and delightful comedy many times and it never bores me. It makes my eyes pop up and my jaw drop down not unlike Jim Carrey's Mask persona in one of the film's many incredible scenes. This is the perfect movie for Jim Carrey's talents in physical comedy. He sure had a lot of fun and improvised in many scenes doing the parodies and paying the homage to the famous movies and characters in recognizable and hilarious way. The movie made me laugh all the time; it is a perfect fun for the whole family which does not happen too often. All supporting players made the film even more enjoyable but one actor who did impossible and almost stole the central spot from Carrey was the dog, the Jack Russell Milo. What a great performance! If they ever gave the Oscars for the best animal performance, Milo would be the one to receive it. The Mask also marked the film debut for an ex- model, 22 years old Cameron Diaz, and I believe that it was one of the most stunning debuts ever. The moment, she stepped in Stanley Ipcus's (Jim Carrey) bank and his life, the new star was born. I've never seen her as beautiful as in her first movie, and her dance with Carrey at the night club has proved that she could keep up with the most amazing physical comedian of our time. Great fun. Oh yes - how could I forget the Oscar nominated special effects that made Carrey's transformations from a shy clerk to a superhero absolutely amazing. I think that this comedy is timeless and it would delight the viewers of all ages for many years.

    The Mask 2 Star Review
2009-09-29 - The quality sound and picture for this blu-ray version is below zero and I keeped my DVD version with sharper screen better (6.1 DTS) sound.
Ofcouse I do not blame you.

Shock and awe fun! 5 Star Review
2009-09-12 - This has got be Jim Carrey's best classic film. I bought the very first DVD copy when initially released and it sucked! The DVD production that is! LOL!

It was two sided with so called wide screen that has the gray bars on top AND bottom, with the other side full screen. It was the studio's reluctance to put out quality video in the hands of the consumers I suppose that caused it to be such a big disappointment to me, but I did not buy any of the better subsequent releases as I was mad for being ripped off the first time.

Consumers have a way of getting even and getting the last laugh it seems, as there must have been at least one better subsequent release left unsold on the shelf! HA!

I could not however resist the blue-Ray release as I knew it would be great and I was not disappointed, especially in my new Panasonic DMP BD 80 blue-Ray player I bought from Amazon!

I highly recommended if you feel up for some awesome shock and awe fun laughs.
