Crash Landing / Midnight Lightning Reviews:
Producer Alan Douglass effort, but has its moments
2009-08-11 - These 2 albums have been deleted from the Jimi catalog in America and will never come back.
Alan Douglass re-produced these songs and even added new overdubbs from studio musicians he hired to play.
Some of the version though are excellent....."Machine Gun" I think is stunning here, I really feel had Jimi heard this version, he wouda said "thats it!
some of sings are very smooth and well polished, like "Message of Love".
Then some songs are destroyed like "Gypsy Boy" whish was a early version of "Hey Baby, New Rising Sun" the original mix was great, but Douglass added background singers and the song is ruined, utterly ruined!
But Still, its worth having and overall, they are not bad, certainly not as bad as the Hendrix purists dash these titles.
90% of the tracks existed as "Electric Layland" Outtakes!
2009-05-29 - That's right. And I have it!Jimi Hendrix: An Illustrated Experience Music afficionados that truly appreciate Jimi's music know that everything that exists on both "Crash Landing" and Midnight Lightning" were recorded in the summer of 1970 by Jimi in his newly opened Greenich Village, N.Y.C. Studio. Room Full of Mirrors: A Biography of Jimi Hendrix I have listened to these outtakes, and believe it or not, still have them on cassette! They are harsh, unrefined, and unmelodic! Hendrix: Setting the Record Straight Juxtaposed with what Alan Douglas put out, the tracks sound sharp, polished, and have a sound all of it's own. Jimi Hendrix: The Intimate Story of a Betrayed Musical LegendYes, it's all Hendrix, with a cleaner sound! The guitar leads in Midnight Lightning is ALL Hendrix, all undoctored, and only assisting leads, and improved bass of some very talented musicians that I am sure Jimi would of approved of are blended in! This is classic Hendrix, right up there with "Rainbox Bridge" and "The Cry of Love! This is equally true in "Crash Landing! In fact, the signature song (same as the album cover) rates as one of Jimi's most intense, raging guitar attacks right up there with his scorching lead in "Voodoo Child, Slight Return" Electric Ladyland, and Midnight" War Heroes. This is a double Hendrix treat not to be missed!
Bootleg city
2009-05-01 - IT'S A CRYING SHAME,THAT THE GREATEST ROCK ICON THAT HAS EVER EXISTED,ISN'T ALIVE TODAY,TO DEFEND HIS MUSIC, FROM THE PARASITE PRODUCERS,THAT HAVE USED HIS TRACKS,AND ILLEGAL RECORDING REMIXING TECHNOLOGY,TO CRUCIFY HIS LEGACY AFRESH.THE UTMOST BLASPHEMY.THE TWO ALBUMS IN THIS WORK,REVEAL SUCH HERESY.IT GIVES ME A BLEEDING HEART.THEY NEED TO STAND IN FRONT OF A MACHINE GUN.
Poor quality productions doom these horrible releases
2009-02-10 - Even if you have no qualms with the dubious nature of these posthumous frankenstein-ed records the fact is that their sound quality is horrible. I bought these on cassette in my teens and the sound is thin, cold and lame. Alan Douglas is no music producer. The tone of these records is harsh, the instrumentation is limp and uninspired. You will even hear the occasional disco rhythm played on the hi-hat cymbals. These albums were bad ideas to begin with and their sound quality reflects that all too plainly....AVOID!
HENDRIX CLASSIC
2009-01-15 - WELL WORTH THE MONEY FROM THIS ROCK GENIUS! THIS ALBUM REALLY COVERS HIS CAREER VERY WELL AND ALL TRACKS ARE VERY WELL DONE! RECOMMEND PURCHASE!
