Hendrix in the West- Jimi's greatest work!
2009-08-01 - I just received this epic CD, today, for it has been almost 40 years since I first listened to this Jimi Hendrix classic. I sincerely thank IIya Hahaev, for making it possible, for me to listen to enjoy this music, once again. Thank you, again! Joe Scalise.

Hendrix in the West - great album, ...but pricey
2009-01-11 - Unlike the other reviewer, I do not have every single Hendrix recording ever made ...but I have A LOT ... and this is one of the very best. Despite his low rating he agrees that the music on this CD is great. "In The West" is a collection of live performances originally released on vinyl not long after Hendrix's death. Because it was early, it contains some of Hendrix's very best live music. Most, if not all, of this material is now available on other concert CDs - so it a sort of a "best of" Hendrix live CD. Many hard core collectors will balk at paying such a high price for material they already have. Not me.

I remembered the original LP fondly and was happy to pay nearly $39 to get it again on CD. Others may think that too much to pay for 8 songs no matter how good they are, which I can understand. If you want a bargain, buy "Stages" (still available for about $60) which gives you 4 concerts from 4 years on 4 CDs (I highly recommend "Stages" too). But if you prefer a tighter set of great live Hendrix songs, this is it. In my opinion "In the West" is the best Hendrix live album. It is more upbeat, more fun, and rocks harder than "Band Of Gypsys". I love it.

This review refers to ALL the "Import-CDs" THAT HAVE ONLY 8 music tracks on them. Now, I LOVE Hendrix! When he was alive, I attended EVERY Hendrix concert I could get to! That resulted in 13 concerts {including the "Band of Gypsies" recorded-live-concerts} that I saw & heard God play music that ONLY Jimi could play! I own and/or have heard almost every LIVE Hendrix album that exists-- both 'legal' and Boots! I always wanted this one, and finally paid $60.00 for a CD- Import with the 8 music tracks. It SUCKS at that price! It is not worth THE HIGH prices. I am NOT saying the music is not good. In fact a few of the tracks are excellent {JUST a few}. The sound quality is excellent, and on the tracks that Noel plays Bass, his Bass playing in absolutely Brilliant!
This CD is Very Good--BUT YOU SHOULD NOT PAY OVER $25.00-$30.00 FOR IT!!
And, you are NOT missing a better "Red House!," by not having this one.
I repeat, my problem is with the price! It is NOT worth anything over $30.00
