Editorial Review:
This special edition DVD features all of the existing film footage from Jimi's incendiary June 18,1967 concert newly transferred to high-definition specs from the original 16mm camera reversal original. Re-edited and presented in its original performance sequence, this DVD showcase of a legendary performance is completely unreleased.
DVD bonus features include:
*The brand new documentary, "American Landing," which traces Jimi's remarkable transformation from obscurity to his triumphant U.S. `debut' at the Monterey Festival.
*"A Second Look," a unique feature that allows viewers to switch between multiple, previously unseen camera angles to view several of Jimi's celebrated performances like never before.
*"Music, Love & Flowers: The Monterey International Pop Festival", a behind the scenes glimpse of the festival's origins, operations, and lasting impact, brought to you by legendary composer, producer and Monterey Festival co-founder Lou Adler.
As an extra special bonus, watch the earliest known film and sound recordings of The Jimi Hendrix Experience in concert from February 25, 1967 before a packed audience in Chelmsford, England. Songs featured are "Stone Free" and "Like A Rolling Stone."
Jimi Hendrix: Live at Monterey Reviews:
A Definite MUST Have
2009-12-30 - I was pleasantly surprised to find out the DVD wasnt just the live show but rather had background on the festival as well as background on Jimi. A fantastic must have for anyone who appreciates good music and definitely worth the price. The special features are also fun to watch and seeing the concert from different angles is a cool experience.
Perhaps best live Hendrix
2009-12-04 - This one holds up under repeated viewings.Another great Rockumentry style DVD that is high energy. The only complaint is you really want more.
Showcase of the power & raw talent of an Electric Guitar Genius!
2009-11-24 - I had previously seen some limited clips of Hendrix' performance at Monterey but never the entire set. I was truly blown away. In the interest of full disclosure, I am a huge Hendrix fan but I can be objective when it comes to comparing various works by Hendrix (I have see & heard some of the bootleg garbage out there and also when Hendrix' performance was sub par). The raw talent of Hendix is quite evident throughout and it appears as though his guitar is just another appendage of his which he uses almost involuntarily. There is talent and hard work and then there is a gift. Hendirx certainly did work very hard at his craft but he was certainly a gifted musician whose contribution to rock music was all too brief. Even though his professional career was very short, he contributed a tremendous body of work which establishes his position in history as the greatest, and most innovative, electric guitarist of all time.
An historic performance at an historic festival, well-done video
2009-09-30 - I've had the album of Hendrix' Pop Festival performance for more than forty years. I believe his performance there was never surpassed. This video captures that performance, and puts it into the context of the Festival's evolution. I think this video is superb. Music performance videos have certainly evolved over the years, some ways to their benefit, other ways...maybe not so beneficial. But this video has the impact of a well-produced documentary, done by people who loved the music and the performers, and who recognized the significance of the magical times they were living in.
