Description of Songs You Know by Heart : Jimmy Buffett's Greatest Hit(s):
Critics have always been singularly unkind to Jimmy Buffett. Or at least they have since the singer became immune to their jabs, commanding a nation of Parrotheads who sell out his shows, snap up his records and books, and eat and drink in his nightclubs in Key West and New Orleans. By now, you've made up your mind as well: To paraphrase Buffett himself from his song "Volcano," you either lava him now, or you lava him not. Songs You Know by Heart is a friendly little best-of collection that features concert perennials such as "Margaritaville," "Fins," "Cheeseburger in Paradise," and the immutable "Why Don't We Get Drunk." If by some chance you've not yet been introduced to Buffett's music, this album is the best way to say hello. --Daniel Durchholz
Songs You Know by Heart : Jimmy Buffett's Greatest Hit(s) Reviews:
Not a full bite
2009-09-17 - Jimmy Buffet is one of the few artist in my opinion that cannot be measured in a "greatest hits." To be honest, I feel Jimmy Buffet shouldn't have a greatest hits. His music is like chapters in ones life and each chapter (album) is a journey. The album, High Cumberland Jubilee, contains many great songs not on this cd. The song, "Ace" is a great window into the soul of Jimmy that a greatest hits cd will not open up to. Also, the song, "Cowboy in the Jungle" off of, Son of a Son of a Sailor is impeckable to me and also is not reflected on this cd.
Jimmy is a true artist and is worth a complete listen and not a snapshot. Margaritaville is only a appetizer into the feast that Jimmy has created over the years.
Transaction was okay.
2009-09-17 - The transaction was fine. Be sure to place expedited shipping if you want the product in a hurry though. Otherwise, the transaction went well.

A one CD best of collection.
2009-02-24 - If you could only own one Jimmy Buffett CD this would be a good one to have. It is a collection of some of Jimmy's best songs on one CD.
Songs you know when to turn the radio off by heart...
2009-02-24 - It's not like I hate Jimmy Buffet, but c'mon. How many more times do you need to hear these songs? Clean out the garage or play with the kids instead. Jeez....
a buffett delight
2009-01-09 - Fear not- this is NOT just music for your parents.
In fact, for years I thought Jimmy Buffett was some strange goofball who couldn't really write songs and mainly focused on, well, being a goofball. A guy who was more concerned experiencing the joy of warm pleasant air and late night parties, and less concerned writing a vocal melody that holds the test of time.
In other words, I thought the music he was creating was the kind you're not supposed to really care about, because at *least* you're drunk and having fun, so it doesn't even matter what the music is like.
Well guys, I was wrong about that. As someone who's not into parties, dancing, or even having fun for that matter (my idea of having fun is watching Deal or No Deal on TV) I gotta admit, if you sit down and really listen to these songs, there's actually a good chance you will be somewhat satisfied with what you're hearing. Don't expect King Crimson kind of influential, creative experiments (why would you?). Just expect songwriting that's somewhat entertaining and that's it.
Oh sure, there's some typical 70's ballads on here, but most of the songs are about having the time of your life at the beach while you polish your boat, running around through the sand looking for money with your metal detector, or sitting around having a few drinks with the guys in Florida or anywhere else that's warm (as you can tell, I'm jealous of warm places- it's supposed to be 10 degrees here in Philadelphia next week and that makes me angry. January is my second least favorite month of the year).
Just like my dad, my favorite song is "Come Monday". Truly a classic song THAT one is, and I even get tears listening to that wonderful chorus. LOVE that song. We don't need to hear "Margaritaville" anymore though. Oh man, enough is enough.
Most of the songs are more upbeat. I'm guessing more people prefer their Buffett songs to be that way. Who sits around getting depressed over Buffett songs? Yeah, go with the upbeat stuff.
Good album that you shouldn't be afraid to give a listen to. Don't think it's just music for your parents either. You *can* be young and Buffett happy without any shame in it. So go grab a cheeseburger and a couple drinks, turn up the thermostat, and enjoy.
