    Bugsy Malone [Blu-ray] Reviews:
Region 0 hi def transfer of a lost classic 4 Star Review
2009-10-20 - Finally a terrfic transfer of an absolute classic, I hadn't seen this since a matinee showing back in the 80s when I was a kid and now I see why an audience full of children practically rioted when they witnessed this. A kids flick that doesn't talk down to the youngsters but throws them smack dab into an adult world, couple that with Paul Williams wonderfully catchy tunes and you have cinematic magic. Jodi Foster and Scott Baio are odd, funny and interesting to watch and the kid who camps it up as the Fat Sam is brilliant. I always felt like Alan Parker doesn't quite get his due considering the other classics he has been involved in this is just more fuel to that fire. Transfer and audio quality are all top notch, just don't try to watch the extras on a Reg 1 player.

Great movie with a cute concept 5 Star Review
2009-01-14 - This is a great movie based on a really cute concept (child actors playing adult roles). It's certainly interesting to see a young Jodie Foster.
It's interesting that this UK import region free Blu-ray is selling for $33 (as of Jan. 2009) because you can order it directly from Amazon UK for about $15. Yes, the shipping will be more expensive, but not by that much.
A note on the region free element. The movie is region free, but the special features are in PAL and therefore will not play on a U.S. Blu-ray player.

DVD won't play in regular DVD players 1 Star Review
2008-10-27 - My review is about the DVD itself not the movie. I loved the movie Bugsy Malone when I was a child so I was thrilled to see it again in DVD. Well to my surprise the DVD took 4 weeks to get here. Then when it was here it wouldn't play because it's in "Blue Ray" formmat. I don't have a blue Ray player and it doesn't mention about it's being only in Blue Ray formant on the order page. So I waited 4 weeks and can't play the DVD when I finally got it. Not to mention paying the postage to return it for a refund.

Why wont Paramount release this in the US??!! 5 Star Review
2008-09-14 - First off, although this Bluray disc is region free, the bonus features are PAL and will not play in US Bluray players. The film itself does (director's commentary track too.) The picture quality is great and so is the 5.1 soundtrack. There does seem to be a little motion blur at times but the clarity and color is better than I've ever seen for this film. Bugsy Malone has always been more popular in the UK but I'm still not sure why Paramount hasn't released this on DVD in the states. At least with this release you can toss your crappy asian bootlegs. Still this is one of my childhood favorites and Jodie Foster is wonderful. So is Paul Williams great soundtrack. I still want a spurge gun!
