  • Editorial Review:
When a B-3 Stealth Bomber crashes in the Utah desert during a top-secret test run, the military quickly moves in to retrieve its two "broken arrows." But the situation spins wildly out of control after one of the pilots reveals the crash to be part of an incredible nuclear extortion plot.

    Description of Broken Arrow [Blu-ray]:
John Travolta is Vic Deakins, a bomber pilot who launches a devilish plan to hijack two nuclear missiles for big-time extortion. Vic never sweats, spews out great one-liners, knocks off money men with glee, toys with killing half a million people... he even smokes!

If you giggled at his "Ain't it cool" line from the trailer, you're in the right frame of mind for this comedic action film. Never as gritty or semi-realistic--or for that matter as heart-thumping--as the original Die Hard, Broken Arrow still delivers. If Travolta is cast against type, everyone else is by the numbers; Christian Slater as Hale, the earnest copilot looking to foil the plot, Samantha Mathis as the brave park ranger caught in the middle, Frank Whaley as an eager diplomat, Delroy Lindo as a right-minded colonel. As with his previous script (the superior Speed), writer Graham Yost moves everything quickly along as Hale and the ranger try to cut off Deakins's plan over a variety of terrains. We have plane crashes, car chases, a pursuit through an abandoned mine, a helicopter-train shootout, and lots of fighting between boys. Each time Hale finds himself perfectly in place to foil Deakins. You're suppose to laugh at the unbelievable situations. That's where Arrow is deceptive: its tone is right for the laughter compared to the mean-spirited Schwarzenegger and Stallone action films with labored jokes. Hong Kong master director John Woo (The Killer, Hard Target) pulls out all the stops--slow motion of Hale and Deakins's gymnastic gun play, nifty stunts, countdowns to doomsday. Woo may know action, but he needs more guidance in creating unique and stunning special effects. This is action entertainment at its cheesiest. Travolta and Woo later reteamed for Face/Off. --Doug Thomas

    Broken Arrow [Blu-ray] Reviews:
The Arrow need to be fixed 3 Star Review
2008-08-29 - OK movie but a bit slow in spots. More violence and much more nudity would improve the plot.

Fast-Paced and Suspenseful 4 Star Review
2008-07-06 - This is a pretty good action flick. John Travolta plays an Air Force pilot who becomes a madman when he hijacks a nuclear missile to sell. Christian Slater is the good guy, also a pilot, who tries to stop him. This has plenty of action, fight scenes, explosions. They use trucks, planes, trains, etc. The desert and canyon settings are beautiful. Samantha Mathis plays a very likeable Park Ranger caught up in all of this and helper to the Slater character. It is a fairly short movie which helps it move along. Not a bad storyline either, kept me interested.

Fun with a big container of popcorn. 3 Star Review
2008-06-16 - Broken Arrow is a fun, action filled, check your brain at the door movie.
Comon folks, if you're looking for something intellectually stimulating you came to the wrong movie.
    Action, action, and more action.
The direction is ok, the acting from two of Hollyweirds biggest has beens is ok.
All in all, it's just a good movie to watch when there's nothing else on the 800 cable channels which is very often.
Worth a rental, just don't expect Gone With The Wind.

Silly... but alright 3 Star Review
2008-04-11 - This is quite the implausible tale of a lone soldier taking down helicopters with a single bullet, nuclear bombs going off and not hurting anybody, and other things. It's a good movie if you're bored and hard-up for an escape from reality, but other than that it's not all that great in my opinion.

exhilarating action from John Woo 4 Star Review
2008-03-02 - a madman has stolen two nuclear warheads and threatens to detonate them
over a populated area if his demand for money is not met.that's the
gist of the story.it stars John Travolta,Christian Slater,Samantha
Mathis and Delroy Lindo,to name a few.it's a pulse pounding thriller
from John Woo(mission Impossible 2).there's obviously a lot of
action, and suspense, and the movie goes right down to the wire.John
Travolta is good,as is Christian Slater, but i really liked Samantha
Mathis, who i feel is and underrated actress.the action scenes are are
    exhilarating,though admittedly over the top.but for thrills,you can't
    beat it.for me,Broken Arrow is a 4/5
