A nighttime soap opera about the lives, careers, trials and tribulations of a group of young people living in an apartment building in the trendy neighborhood of Melrose Place. Jake's neighbors comprise of Alison (Courtney Thorne-Smith), Rhonda (Vanessa Williams), Sandy (Amy Locane), Matt (Doug Savant), and married couple Michael (Thomas Calabro) and Jane (Josie Bissett). When Alison's roommate runs out on her, she takes in Billy (Andrew Shue) to cover the rent. Just as 90210 had the Peach Pit, the twentysomethings of Melrose gather at Shooters, where aspiring actress Sandy waits tables. Her roommate Rhonda teaches aerobics. Other professions include mechanic (Jake), receptionist (Alison), social worker (Matt), doctor (Michael), designer (Jane), and writer (Billy). Midway through the season, photographer Jo (Daphne Zuniga) and ad exec Amanda ("special guest" Heather Locklear) arrive to shake things up. What had been a program about work and life issues takes a darker turn as Michael gives in to temptation and Amanda sets out to ruin Alison's career--and her relationship with Billy. Other troublemakers are waiting in the wings, like Michael's colleague Kimberly (Marcia Cross) and Jane's sister Sydney (Laura Leighton). Both return to stay in the second year. Melrose Place ran for seven increasingly soapy seasons and spawned the short-lived Models, Inc.. Afterwards, Thorne-Smith moved on to Ally McBeal and According to Jim, while Savant and Cross would eventually segue to Desperate Housewives. Yawn a minute... 
2009-12-16 - I bought this set after seeing the very hot (after all these years) Heather Locklear on the TV talkshow circuit...she no doubt was quietly promoting this series. I thought, therefore, that the series would be like a Locklear marathon with all that that implies.
Well, she was not in every scene; indeed, she was not in every show. Worse, her role normally was to stand up from a cubicle and gossip to the woman next door...that was it.
Overall, I found this, well, boring...
A Good Season, but A Little Schmaltzy 
2009-12-09 - Ok, so the first half of this season I had to force myself to watch. I loved Amy Locane's character, however, and I wish that the people that be had decided to keep her on. I agree with others who think she was one of the strongest of the original cast. Story line-wise, the first half of the season was full of overly average storytelling. Very much yawn worthy material. Then Sandy (Amy Locane) left the show and things started to pick up gradually. I was a little unsure when the character of Jo Reynolds was first brought on; her first few appearances were a little sketchy. But after a while, I fell in love with her!
Then the baddest b*$#h of all came on board in the form of a little character called Amanda Woodward. Even early on, she was delicious and really added some spice to the doldrums that were Billy and Allison. One of my favorite season one quotes, here: Allison: "Amanda, why are you bringing so many suitcases?" Amanda: "Unlike you, Allison, I don't have the ability to make one outfit work four different ways." Hahaha, classic.
By the end of the season, they had kicked off Vanessa Williams, (who, in my opinion, simply had to go. She was just too nice for Melrose Place.) and story lines had really started getting soapy. To sum up, it's more than worth it to sit through EVERY season one episode. I had so much fun watching the character of Michael transform from doting and loving husband to a lecherous pig and Allison gets a nice story twist in the form of a psychotic married man.

2009-03-10 - Being a huge Melrose freak I couldn't wait to get the dvd's for the extras! The only problem is they don't play through.
