Bill Bixby plays a 19th-century gambler who inherits responsibility for three orphans, but the kids in turn have something of value: a huge gold nugget. This Disney film from 1975 is an enjoyable potboiler with its sentimentality under control and the accent on laughs, most of which are provided, not unexpectedly, by Tim Conway and Don Knotts as thieves who want to get their hands on the treasure. another childhood memory 
2009-07-29 - My siblings and I thought this movie was just hilarious when we were very young. I bought in the hopes that I could share it with my class at school. While it is still a hilarious movie, I would never show it at school. I am extrememly picky about what I show to other people's kids. The main thing I have a problem with is the drinking. It shows a "saloon" pretty often and you can see the glasses of beer and at least one character gets drunk. It's too bad, because it is a classic. I will keep it for personal use. It is a clever, funny film that all ages can enjoy.
Gold rush DVD 
2009-07-17 - I bought this DVD for an end of year party for my 4th graders. They loved the silly, gentle, slapstick. They totally got the humor and laughed a lot. It is hard to find a G movie these days and this a keeper.

2009-06-22 - This is one of the funniest movies ever made. This is a movie that you will watch over and over again. If you want to enjoy an evening at home with lots of laughts, this is the one.

Very Funny
2009-01-25 - Anything with Don Knotts in it is going to be funny. He just has a special gift in that area, and The Apple Dumpling Gang doesn't disappoint! The storyline, dialogue and delivery all conspire to make you laugh. I didn't remember anything about this movie from when I was a kid; I just remembered that I really liked it. Now I remember why.
But if you like absolute believability in movies, this one isn't in that category. It's just a fun, sit-back-and-laugh movie.
A couple of scenes are drawn out longer than they need to be. If they're too long for adults, they would be for lesser attention spans of children too, certainly. But there are only a couple. This movie is clean; it's back from the days when Disney knew what was appropriate for children and before children became their targets for highly objectionable political agendas.
Adult or child, many people will enjoy this sensibly clean, funny movie.
