Ultimate Comedy DVD Collection (30-pack) Reviews: not a good deal 2008-01-07 - Why would any one pay $300 for this collection? When you can get most of these titles for under $7.50 each and under $5 at wal-mart of all places. And if you really look at it do u really want all 30 titles? Every one is sure not to like a few out of this bundle.
Good movies, not so great value 2007-03-16 - This is a good collection of comedy films, primarily from the 90's:
Blazing Saddles (1974),
Being There (1979),
Caddyshack (1980),
Little Shop of Horrors (1986),
Joe Versus the Volcano (1990),
Dave (1993),
Grumpy Old Men (1993),
Ace Ventura: Pet Detective (1994),
Dumb & Dumber (1994),
The Mask (1994),
Maverick (1994),
Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls (1995),
The American President (1995),
Grumpier Old Men (1995),
Michael (1996),
Waiting for Guffman (1996),
Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery (1997),
Wag the Dog (1997),
Practical Magic (1998),
Rush Hour (1998),
The Wedding Singer (1998),
You've Got Mail (1998),
Analyze This (1999),
Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me (1999),
Best in Show (2000),
Miss Congeniality (2000),
The Whole Nine Yards (2000),
Ocean's Eleven (2001),
Rush Hour 2 (2001),
Austin Powers in Goldmember (2002)
There are a couple of classics in there like "Being There" and "Blazing Saddles", but primarily these are just above average crowd-pleasing comedies that just about anybody will enjoy and find funny. The problem is that the newest movie in the bunch is now five years old, with most of them averaging around eleven years of age. Thus even at this greatly reduced price, this collection is still no bargain versus finding them in the sale bin, and all of them are pretty easy to find in that way. I'm giving the collection itself four stars, and the value of the collection two stars - thus my rating of three stars.
Great for someone with no taste and raised in a closet 2006-06-25 - This collection was designed for someone like me that has no taste. I find just about any comedy funny on different levels. They are contemporary comedies that do not require an acquired understanding of the time or delivery method.
The disadvantage is this set still has quit a range of subject matter and a plethora of comics which makes it difficult for discerning viewers from thinking that there are a few clinkers in the collection.
Of course if you were not raised in a closet, you probably have the main comedies already so it would be hard to gain an advantage by buying the collection.
This would make a great starter present for someone with their first DVD.
Meh. Just meh. 2003-12-07 - You can find most of these DVDs in one fell swoop on e-bay already if you use the search term "DVD lot" and you will end up paying about half the total cost. These are all Warner Bros snapcase DVDs, by the way. Yep, they come in those cases that drive everyone insane because they are cheap beyond a reasonable doubt. It wouldn't surprise me if half these titles are updated by Warner with new 2-disc special editions (in awesome packaging) in the next 2 years or so. Shop around, folks. These are the same movies you see countless times at your local pawn shop for half the cost here. There's nothing special here to be had, and chances are, you'll be paying for at least one title you don't want.
Good collection to give to the new DVD Owner 2003-12-05 - I have to agree with the other reviewer that most people would not benefit from this selection of DVD's UNLESS, however, they're brand-new DVD owners who want an instant collection. The movie selection is pretty good, and $10 per DVD is pretty decent, though I, myself, probably have about half of the DVD's already and wouldn't necessarily want the other half. As cheap as most DVDs are now, though, unless you are just clueless as to what movies to select for someone else, I would think you could do a better job of selecting DVDs that you know you (or the gift recepient) would enjoy.
