Editorial Review:
During his fifty-year career, Leigh Wiener photographed every US president from Truman to Reagan, Hollywood legends from Marilyn to Marlon, musicians from Miles to Sinatra, and scores of writers, athletes, politicians, and industry titans. Among Wiener's most unforgettable images are a series of portraits of singer--songwriter Johnny Cash taken in Los Angeles in the early 1960s, showing Cash in his iconoclastic, legendary prime.
Johnny Cash: Photographs by Leigh Wiener Reviews:
Portraits Of The Man In Black
2009-11-20 - Leigh Wiener, known for photographing celebrities and Presidents (he photographed every President from Truman to Reagan), here exhibits his portraits of Johnny Cash. These photographs were taken between April 1960 and April 1962, and are predominantly in black and white, with a selection of color portraits, including a very few where Johnny doesn't wear black. The composition of these photographs speak to Wiener's mastery of perspective, lighting, and shadow, and are some of the best of Cash I have ever seen. I have nothing negative to say about any of the photographs, but gave it four stars because I believe the book would have been enormously enhanced by commentary about the sessions (there is none) by Wiener, who passed away in 1993, or someone else with knowledge of the sittings.
All told I recommend this book without reservation to fans of Johnny Cash, Leigh Wiener, photography, or portraiture.

2007-01-09 - Purchased as a gift for my 33 yr. old son. We never listened to Johnny Cash until recently. He was enthralled with the pictures. Beautiful book for everyone to enjoy some personal moments.
