Editorial Review: Studio: Uni Dist Corp (music) Release Date: 10/21/2008 Cash for Kenya: Live in Johnstown, PA Reviews: Enjoyable hour with a relaxed Cash 2009-10-31 - He obviously feels comfortable in the church setting and puts on an enjoyable show - June Carter shines in this one. Although it lacks the edge of a prison show - Johnny is not dogging it and having a good time and seems quite happy. Worth the price of admission.
Another good DVD by Johnny Cash but with reservations. 2009-10-28 - Johnny Cash sounds great in this video although I didn't think the sound quality was that good. The sound had too much mid range but that can be corrected by an equalizer. I also thought that the guitar player did a good job of filling in for Bob Wooten, but I agree with another reviewer who wrote that the guitar player on this concert seemed to be in his own world...playing with his back to the people, which was annoying. He apparently didn't think he was on camera or would be in a video. I still thought this was a great concert however and would recommend this to any Johnny cash fan.
The Title Said Enough for Me 2009-01-14 - I'm a FAN of Johnny Cash, though he started his career before I was born.
He is one of my "heroes" not because he was without flaws or weaknesses, but because of them. His music had a raw honesty that you don't hear today
in music. The DVD is of a concert he gave in a church in Johnstown, Pa, a former steel town in Western Pennsylvania and nearby the hometown of Charles Bronson and Johnny Weismuller among others. This DVD is charming in its simplicity. I think Cash is at his best in such venues. I LOVE it.

A "Cash" Charity Relief Concert makes its home video debut 2008-11-30 - Here's a Johnny Cash Concert NOT released by his record label or taken from a TV Broadcast. In 1991, Reverend Jack Shaw in Johnstown, Pennsylvania was trying to raise money for a hospital that he wanted to build in Kenya. He called on Cash, who was a deeply religious man and supported many worthy causes, to give a concert in a small church with the plan to release the taped concert on video. Cash brought along the whole family including his wife June and June's Mom, Mother Maybelle Carter, as well as Cash's son, John Carter Cash, who joins in on one number. - and is the "Producer" of this DVD.
The show was recorded - and is the property of Shaw Ministries - but, to my knowledge, never released before. Now it's commercially available through Eagle Vision and Eagle Rock Entertainment.
Cash gave many of this type of concert in small churches over the years but this is the first time one has been available to the public. From the opening introduction from Cash, you know you are in a house of worship. Most of the songs have lengthy introductions. Of course, the requisite Cash standards are here ("Folsom Prison Blues", "Ring of Fire", and the "Jackson" duet with June). About five numbers have The Carter Family backing Cash. "Pickin' Time" and "Man in White" were new to me and I don't think are on any other Cash video performances.
According to the liner notes by John Carter Cash the hospital has not yet been built but that the "All proceeds to the Cash Estate from the sale of this DVD will go to Grace Christian Mission Hospital, a division of Jack Shaw Ministries. Cash fans who want to see his more religious side, as well as anyone interested in classic country music, will enjoy this DVD.

Cash for Kenya: Live in Johnstown, PA 2008-11-22 - I just bought this dvd..it is a great concert...Johnny cash and the Carter family are great and i was really glad to see Anita Carter singing as well...she has a beautiful voice...the only thing that i didnt like and most hard core Cash fans probably wont like this either was the absents of Bob Wootten on guitar...the guitar player on this concert seemed to be in his own world...playing with his back to the people and not trying to sound anything like Luther Perkins or Bob Wootten...the songs Johnny Cash picked for this show are great...the dvd is really worth buying and i have already watched it several times but you just have to look past the guitar player...once you have watched this dvd you will see what i am talking about...thanks for reading my opinion...jeff johnson
