Editorial Review:
From the summer of 1969 to the final show in March of 1971 (58 episodes in all) The Johnny Cash TV Show not only exposed an American audience to an eclectic array of musical talent but also helped establish Johnny Cash as a true artist humanitarian and larger-than-life legend. The 66 performances contained on this new Best-Of DVD showcase the spectrum of incredible performers that Johnny hand-picked to be on his show many for their first network appearance. So "come along and ride this train" - the train that Cash envisioned or us all - every week on The Johnny Cash TV Show and now for generations to come.Format: DVD MOVIE Genre: MUSIC DVD/CONCERTS UPC: 886971539196
Description of The Johnny Cash Show: The Best of Johnny Cash:
During the late 1960s and early '70s, Johnny Cash introduced country fans and viewers of his weekly variety show to hand-picked artists-- some contemporary country's best—whom they may not have otherwise had exposure to. This "best of" anthology is a little more random than its title suggests, omitting the duet with Bob Dylan from the program's debut (perhaps the best remembered highlight from the series) in favor of a duet with the then-emerging Joni Mitchell on "Girl From the North Country," and including a hokey arrangement of "I've Been Everywhere" with Lynn Anderson. Yet Ray Charles' soulful recasting of "Ring of Fire" is a revelation, and a roster ranging from Eric Clapton's Derek and the Dominoes to Roy Orbison to George Jones and (separately) Tammy Wynette made for some memorable television. --Don McLeese
The Johnny Cash Show: The Best of Johnny Cash Reviews:
Talk about nostalgia!!!
2008-04-25 - This the BEST!!
I am a huge Johnny Cash fan and this is just like watching him 'for real'
Anyone who is a fan of JC/country music will love this DVD--it takes you back in time to the days when country music was more than contrified rock music and TV was worth watching...and is priced just right.
Bad DVDs
2008-03-21 - We got two copies of this DVD and the sound did not work properly on either one. At $25.99, Amazon decided to refund only $12.99. Would not recommend!!
The Man ahead of his time
2007-12-15 - Johnny Cash has always been a pert of my musical experience. His wisdom in life and recognizing other talented people is what i admire the most out of him. He has helped more musicians than anyone else during his time. And those folks were fans and loved his craft before he discovered them only to continue to adore him and appreciate his humble gestures. The one shining example is Trent Reznor from NIN. When johnny covered the song hurt it accentuated the despair that the song has and it proved to be one of trent's most cherished moments to hear his version of hurt.
Well in this dvd shot in the late 70's Johnny is at it again. the great moments of his tv show shot in the famed Ryman theater in Nashville at a time when the music and artist were not mainstream is pure genius. There are some vintage performances on this dvd sure to attract fans of music be it country rock or blues it's all here.
The Johnny Cash Show: The Best of Johnny Cash
Bo dylan, Linda Ronstadt, Credence Clearwater revival are a few of the artists on this dvd. I don't remember all of the featured artists on the dvd and don't have the dvd in my possesion it's currently on loan to my friend Rich from the Great Notch Inn.

Great Collectors Item
2007-12-07 - For all Man In Black fans this is a must buy. Highlights from his show are fabulous, with great guest stars including Dylan,Ray Charles, Louis Armstrong and many others.
The Man was ahead of his time
2007-10-05 - I highly recommend watching this DVD. It brings back so many great memories, but even for people who don't remember the TV show, it gives you a real feel for the mood of the country at the time. The guests and music are great, and the hairstyles and clothing are a hoot.
