Editorial Review:
This CD features Cash performing for inmates inside the Tennessee State Penitentiary in Nashville. Recorded in 1976, this is only one of two prison concerts Cash ever recorded for broadcast and features legendary performers Johnny Cash, Linda Ronstadt and Roy Clark performing their greatest hits. Eagle Records. 2003.

A Concert: Behind Prison Walls Reviews:
Live Linda Ronstadt...who could ask for anything more! 5 Star Review
2006-12-27 - Sorry all you Johnny Cash lovers, but you're wrong. This is indeed as great concert and very enjoyable to listen to. Considering the age of this recording the sound is excellant. I think the problem here is the way this concert was promoted. Eagle Records, foolishly put Johnny Cash on the cover only like he was the only person signing on it, when clearly he is not. This is why some people feel "cheated". To Eagle Records I say please do not do this again. All the artists in this concert should have been given equal billing. You see it's true, honesty IS the best policy. Other than that the concert is GREAT. I truely love listening to it. Linda Ronstadt sounds FANTASTIC, as beautiful as the rose of a woman she is. To those who are mad that Johnny C is not more featured, I say relisten to the CD and enjoy it for WHAT IT IS. All performers are in great voice and healthy. God bless um. That's enough for me.

i'm tired of bellyachers 4 Star Review
2004-01-12 - ok, i only own the dvd but the cd has the exact same stuff. as far as i'm concerned, this was a good show, maybe not great. so it isn't all johnny...well boo hoo. roy clark and linda rondstadt are great musicians as well, though maybe not as timeless as johnny (though i think linda at least comes close). not familiar with em? thought this would be all johnny? try listening to the others. u might even grow to like em. at the least u'll learn something. i always love watching roy's seamless lead guitar and banjo picking on the dvd. as for johnny, his extended monologue on orange blossom special is priceless and available nowhere else. the man shines like he always does. of course he sounds different from san quentin and folsom prison--those were different concerts! try seeing more than one side of a performer for once. as for the overdubbing, i don't know how it was on some old video but on the dvd such a claim is nonsense. i watched the musicians carefully, especially bob wooten (as I always try to imitate him) and everything syncs up. i know wooten's playing, as well as carl perkins'. there was no dubbing here. get this if you're a country fan or if u have an OPEN MIND about good music.

Johnny Cash Behind Prison Walls appears to be overdubbed 1 Star Review
2003-12-31 - This show was done actually around 1974 and was originally released on a video called "A Flower Out Of Place" in the early 1980's. It was a show originally hosted by Glen Shirley who wrote the Cash hit "Greystone Chapel" from the "Live At Folsom Prison" album. Although I have not purchased the new CD or DVD, I have seen the video broadcast on satellite. It is in my estimation after having seen and heard the original video that that Cash's band members W.S. Holland (drums) and Marshall Grant (bass) were overdubbed with tracks recorded by other musicians. I don't know why it would be done this way, but I'm afraid that it is true. I do not plan to purchase the CD or DVD.

I'm sure the guys in the prison enjoyed it 1 Star Review
2003-11-28 - This has "made-for-T.V." written all over it. Not the best Cash live recording I've heard (the DVD isn't that impressive either), though I'm sure the guys in the prison enjoyed it. I think I would have enjoyed reading about this show more than listening to it.

hardly worth the Cash 2 Star Review
2003-11-12 - I haven't felt this burned by a CD in a long time. Only 7 of these cuts are actually Johnny Cash. And the songs that are him are certainly not his best versions. The comedy routines are DREADFUL. There is almost no info on the recordings or the concert .

Perhaps the DVD is a better experience.

With all of the great JC re-releases, new collections, and concerts coming out put this one at the bottom of your want list.
