Hurt/Personal Jesus Reviews:
More than cash
2008-05-15 - Great recordings, Personal Jesus an all time favourite and Hurt standing almost equally next to it. Should be printed on HQ vinyl though.
Give credit where due
2004-10-12 - I am a big fan of trent reznors, the song "hurt" has been attempted to be remade by several but cash is the only one i found fitting. its also cool that sevendust covered it as an acoustic tribute to the late Cash and even put it in their acoustic CD/DVD. but reading the credits like i always do, neither Reznor or Nothing Records were mentioned. alot of people i have encountered didnt even realize it was a NIN song. i fully support interpreting music into different angles and the remake done by Cash is outsanding, but please give credit where credit is due. Trent Reznor is a talented artist and deserves recognition too.
VIDEO TRACK OF 'HURT' ONLY PLAYS ON PC'S (QUICKTIME)!!!!
2004-01-27 - Firstly, the 'enhanced cd' only works WITH QUICKTIME ON PERSONAL COMPUTERS!!! The Quicktime software is loaded with the video, just place the CD in your CD-ROM drive and follow install instructions. When I first purchased this CD, I was dumbstruck when I tried to play the 'video' track on my GE DVD Player and realized the enhanced CD was just that -- NOT DVD FORMATTED. Having led off with that admonition, the CD is stunning, despite the short, four track length. 'Wichita Lineman', track three, is worth the purchase price alone. The production values on this track are simple, clean, and piercing. 'Personal Jesus', an old Depeche Mode standard, is a good cut also. And of course, as a double whammy, there is the audio track of 'Hurt' (Track 1) and track four, the Quicktime Video version of 'Hurt'. You will not be sorry to buy this 'enhanced CD'. For those desiring the DVD version, check out American Records (Lost Highway) version of 'Hurt'. God Bless Johnny Cash and his work - we miss you.
Happy Listening,
Will
Must make Reznor proud....
2004-01-17 - I can imagine the great honor that Trent Reznor must feel...having his beautiful song covered by one of the most sincere artists in music history. I am not the biggest country fan in the universe- yet I have an appreciation for artist such as Cash and Nelson. I am a fan of Nine Inch Nails and can say that Cash has captured the organic nature of the song and has sung it as if his own. It is sad and beautiful and a masterwork.
Personal Jesus makes me laugh. I do not mean this in a bad way..I'm sure that it wasn't intended to be a humorous tune...it just comes across that way for me. I just never would have imagined Cash covering it...(and it makes me think of the 80's).
However, I like the song very much.
Lineman is beautiful...haunting...makes me think of the west..the sunset...everything that brought allure to "the man in black".
Music is great; enhanced video didn't work on G.E. DVD Playe
2004-01-13 - 'Wichita Lineman' is awesome, if not for its' production value alone. 'Hurt' and 'Personal Jesus' are great also. Unfortunately, I bought this CD almost solely for the enhanced 'video' of 'Hurt'. It never worked on my GE brand DVD Player which is supposed to play anything except CDR, CDR-W and Laserdics. This was a tremendous dissapointment - I was mesmerized the first time I saw the video on CMT. Be well informed as to the limitations of your DVD Player if you wish to view the 'video'. If anyone has any idea why this enhanced video wouldn't play (neither video or audio tracks) , drop a line in a review for this CD.
