Editorial Review:
This superb compilation combines Johnny's LP for children with June's LP Appalachian Pride, plus previously unissued masters. These recordings date from 1970-1975. 11 solo songs are performed by June, and 17 tracks are solo songs performed by Johnny. They duet on 2 songs, I Gotta Boy (And His Name Is John) and Little Green Fountain. Highlighting the set, there's a personal appreciation of June by Johnny, and of Johnny by June. Both were written exclusively for this set. CD Digipak with 52-page booklet.
It's All In The Family Reviews:
A Family Experience
2005-12-22 - There are two reasons to buy this disc: to get one of June Carter's rare solo releases and to get Johnny's only children's album. Cash wrote that his only regret in marrying June was that it limited her career. Her material demonstrates his point. The album is classic with some great renditions.
As for Johnny's children's album, well, it is a children's album. This isn't the Man in Black: it's Papa Cash. As intended, children will get more from it than adults.
Disappointing
2002-07-09 - I am a big fan of June Carter Cash and, of course, Johnny Cash. I bought this CD specifically for Johnny's version of "Grandfather's Clock." However, I found most of Johnny's work on the CD to be very disappointing. June's work is better, but still not her best except for Appalachian Pride.
It's sure in the family
2000-06-20 - June Carter's Appalachian Pride and Johnny Cash's The Children's Album. I'll put it this way: This is a beautiful album. The first eleven songs are from June Carter's album - plus the outtake Big Balls in Nashville. The last seventeen are from Children's Album - six of which are previously unreleased outtakes: The Mystery of Number Five, Ben Dewberry's Final Run, Grandfather's Clock, Abacida, Why is a Fire Engine Red? and The Very Biggest Circus of Them All. It's All in the Family contains great songs and wonderful singing. The book that comes with this CD contains the lyrics, a detailed discography, some thirty pictures and notes from Johnny to June and June to Johnny. The sound quality is perfect, the pictures are beautiful and all together this album is one of a kind. Someone has put pride into making this CD something special.
