Editorial Review:
2009 collection containing remixed versions of Johnny's original Sun recordings. These songs were recorded with Cash's band, the Tennessee Two, and were pure and stark with only the essentials; guitar, light percussion and Johnny's unmistakable voice. The challenge was to maintain Cash's fantastic charm and personality while filling out the sound and creating bold re-interpretations. The remix producer's reverence and gratitude were essential to the process. The goal was to bring the sensibility and technology of 2009 to recordings universally accepted as timeless with the endorsement and cooperation of the custodians of Johnny Cash's legacy.
Johnny Cash Remixed Reviews:
What a travesty!
2009-12-11 - This album does not deserve to have Johnny Cash's name on it. I hardly believe that Mr. Cash would have ever agreed to a project like this using his life's work. This album is an abomination. This album does not even deserve one star.
So-So
2009-11-29 - this idea would have been better served being titled something else....Some songs are ok, while others your thinking wtf? I am sorry adding "new" lyrics to a song doesnt work for me. For some they feel that this is a great album and thats fine. I will not be adding this to my collection anytime soon.
good, not great, different...TRUE Cash fans appreciate.
2009-09-28 - I bought this album after I heard a similar remix of walk the line techno remix by dj wolf(?). Johnny Cash was always pushing boundaries with music and always appreciated the views of artists to express themselves as freely as they wanted. If these artists wanted to honor Mr. Cash by remixing his sounds to the beats of their sounds I have to think that a man who fought so honestly for this type of thing in HIS day would appreciate it in THEIR day. Its not a disgrace to his music its an homage to the way that his music influences still to this day. All the so-called Johnny Cash fans rant and rave about how this is a disgrace and a terrible idea and they can't believe how a true Cash fan would like this or even call this music. Well you have taken a beautiful idea of the freedom of the artist(something that Cash and Waylon fans can truly appreciate) and turned it around just to make music expression as a whole so narrow minded. This CD is good...not great. I am not a fan of techno or remixes..however I think that TRUE Cash fans and TRUE music fans would enjoy at least a listen.
Oh, the purists....
2009-08-20 - The great Johnny Cash proved in his lifetime to be more open minded than his fans. He adopted the same philosophy of another music great, Duke Ellington, who said:
"There are two kinds of music. Good music, and the other kind".
Cash took songs from Trent Reznor, Depeche Mode, Roberta Flack, and interpreted them his way. It is only fair that other artists render tribute to Cash by playing his songs as well. Get over it, people.
Awful
2009-05-02 - Total B.S., just an awful idea - why? Just to make more money with the legend? I hate it.
