Survivors Live Reviews:
Great! One of the greatest concerts I've ever heard!
2008-03-13 - This is a very special concert! Leaving only Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins, and Jerry Lee Lewis still alive, these fabulous singers are THE SURVIVORS!!! This cassette with 12 famous songs! This cassette may be rare and expensive, but it is worth the money. I actually didn't buy this item. I was going through my Grandmother's old collection of cassettes, and if found this one. Being a Johnny Cash fan, the second I saw this tape I was thinking "Huh, I've never heard of this release". My Grandmother gave it to me, and the minute I got home, I put it in my tape player and the minute that it began and I heard them singing, I already loved this tape. I rewound it and listened to all 12 tracks and loved every single one of them. I listen to this in the car, at home, everywhere. One of my favorite parts was when they dedicated the song "Peace in the Valley" to Elvis Presley. This tape is fabulous, and I think they should still sell this in stores! I rate this item a 5 out of 5. BTW, I posted the 5 customer images of this product, please rate them!
Survivors indeed!
2002-07-22 - I was in Germany when this was recorded and saw all three of these guys individually in Frankfurt. This recording was taped in Stuttgart several nights after and was produced by Cash's future son inlaw, Rodney Crowell. This set is special in that it brought three of the original Sun Record stars together at about the same time that the mysterious "million dollar quartet" recordings were beginning to surface. Nothing really grabs the listener until Lewis weighs in with Whole Lotta Shakin',then the trio and the backup band,Cash's band with W.S.Holland(Perkin's original drummer)and Lewis's sideman,Ken Lovelace cook on some southern gospel standards. Lewis contributes several inspired piano solos and backs up Perkins'vocals in a way that makes him (Perkins) reach back for more. This disc shows why Cash was,and still is pure country and why Perkins and Lewis could straddle the fence between Country and RocknRoll. This recording also lets us hear what might of been had someone had the foresight to capture these greats earlier, say in the early seventies, still and all, well worth a listen. A "4" based upon the energy and piano drive of one Mr. Lewis alone!
The Priceless Three
2002-03-10 - Essentially this is a reunion of the Sun Records Million Dollar Quartet on stage in Germany. Johnny Cash gets to sing this time and Elvis is in the ground. Gospel tunes, Gene Autry songs, their own great tunes. This is great. In particular, Jerry Lee's singing and playing.
