The Great Country Collection Reviews:
Original vs Re-Recorded
2008-07-06 - A good selection of song titles and artists, but be aware that most tracks are the singers' re-recorded versions. The oldest songs, from the '50s and early '60s, tend to be the versions that played on the radio; that's not the case with the others. Sometimes the differences are very slight, as in Roger Miller's "King of the Road". But "These Boots Are Made For Walking" is just awful. Personally, I enjoyed the live version of "Delta Dawn", but it doesn't sound at all like the original single. If it's important to you to have the original sound on these tracks, then skip this CD compilation. Otherwise, enjoy!
Excellent Buy!
2001-10-30 - Awesome purchase. Wide variety of country tunes. Superb sound
quality. You get 60 songs on 3 cd's. Great Buy for the money.
SMV
great counrty collection
2000-09-09 - Overall a fairly diverse country collection.
My greatest dissapointments happen to also be the reasons I ordered this collection.
I was looking for Tanya Tucker's Delta Dawn track. I found it listed on this selection. The track itself is a live recording taped during a performance much later in her career. DISAPPOINTMENT #1. I was seeking the studio recording played on the airwaves in the 70's.
I specifically chose this compilation rather than others because it also contained "These Boots Were Made For Walking". The description only includes the titled of the songs, but I would venture to say that there are few individuals out there that would guess that a collection of this kind would include a recording by Lee Hazlewood. Of course I was expecting to hear Nancy Sinatra's version!! DISAPPOINTMENT #2.
Because the only surprise recordings on this entire 3 disc, 60 song collection happen to be the only reasons I even ordered this one, it would be safe to say I am unhappy with my purchase.
