Starship Troopers 3: Marauder explodes with mind-blowing man-on-bug combat! Col. Johnny Rico (Casper Van Dien) is back to lead his team on a secret mission to rescue a small crew of troopers stranded on the remote planet of OM-1. Battling bugs, both new and old, the new "Marauder" advanced weapons technology may be their only hope against a treasonous element operating within the Federation itself. As Captain Lola Beck (Jolene Blalock) and the rest of the starship crew fight to survive in the harsh conditions, it begins to dawn on them that something on OM-1 is very, very wrong. This time the bugs have a secret weapon that could destroy humanity. Join the Mobile Infantry in this intergalactic action-packed adventure.

Description of Starship Troopers 3: Marauder:
Hewing closer to Paul Verhoeven's original and much-maligned Starship Troopers than the all-brawn-no-brains sequel, Hero of the Federation, Starship Troopers 3: Marauder blends high-power action with a dose of socio-political commentary in its story of gung-ho Marines versus insidious alien bugs. Ed Neumeier, who penned the Verhoeven film, is back as writer and director, as is Casper Van Dien as lantern-jawed hero Johnny Rico. Now a full-fledged colonel, he is dispatched to a planet where the military faces opposition from both the insect army and dissenting citizens. But after a trumped-up murder charge lands him on death row, Rico discovers that he's being sent on a secret mission to rescue a Sky Marshal (Stephen Anouke) who's gone missing deep in bug territory. Neumeier uses the well-worn military movie tropes to launch a satiric assault on all manner of current real world issues, from ultra-patriotism and military torture to religious fundamentalism and even pop culture as propaganda (Anouke's sky marshal is also a chart-topping singer). He lands a fair share of his jabs, and those that fall flat--Marnette Patterson's grating flight attendant--are tempered by sights like a ring of mechanical warrior 'bots forming an angelic halo. Unfortunately, said special effects are not particularly special, with the robots--the Marauders of the title--arriving far too late in the game. But with so many direct-to-DVD genre titles delivering little more than shoot-em-ups and CGI demonstrations, the tinge of black humor that runs through Starship Troopers 3 is appreciated. The disc includes two commentaries, one featuring Neumeier, Van Dien and Jolene Blalock (Enterprise), and the other with Neumeier and producer David Lancaster; a featurette on the new bugs on display in Troopers 3, as well as interviews with the movie's soldiers, round out the extra features. --Paul Gaita

    Starship Troopers 3: Marauder Reviews:
This movie really BUGGED me 1 Star Review
2009-12-17 - I liked the first "Starship Troopers"; never saw the second. But in this one, the villains weren't the insects; the villains were the writers.

Unbelievably bad script. Every one of the characters in this film was a one-dimensional caricature or stereotype; prancing politicians, brutish "soldiers," redneck outer-space farmers. The "Captain" is a low-rent Angelina Jolie lookalike, plainly hired for the resemblance, and made up to capitalize on it; her lips had been so artificially plumped that they stole attention away from everything else in the scene which introduced her. "Rico" was a square-jawed Ken-doll. (And possibly as anatomically incorrect -- the director having been as coy with the "nude scene" as he was.) The "General" was, what, about twenty-six? (And he falls and gets his GLASSES broken. Are you kidding? In that far-distant day and age, nobody had yet discovered Lasik, or contact lenses?) The characters were buffoonish; the dialogue, cartoonish.

And as a 20-year naval veteran, I'm making a wild guess - that no writer, director or producer on this film ever had ANY military experience... or perhaps had ever seen, or talked with, any Armed Services member. And while that may be forgivable, their lack of research was not. They could at least have taught some of the actors to salute properly.

Another review complimented the "uniforms." I disagree; these were costumes, so wrong that they kept distracting my attention from the dialogue. Every one looked as though it had come straight out of the box, not ten minutes before; way too crisp and clean. I got dirtier than that, working in an office. By comparison: the "Marines" portrayed in "Aliens" were exactly right, completely believable in their broken-in uniforms.

In "Starship Troopers 3," the only believable component was the insects. The special effects were OK; but not good enough to salvage the rest of it for me.

This movie was so bad, it might almost have been produced as a Sci-Fi Channel movie-of-the-week.

Wasted Money, Wasted Time 1 Star Review
2009-12-06 - A Christian message wrapped in blood, gore and nudity? Um, OK. I loved the first movie (even though it had very little to do with the book). I would not have minded this movie if they just gave me mindless dialog, mediocre special effects and a weak story. But when you add Jesus, you go too far. You have to ask for forgiveness and accept Jesus in order to stop the Bugs?? WTF?? I promptly threw the DVD in the trash, where it belonged.

A Return of the first starship troopers 5 Star Review
2009-12-02 - In comparison to the second film. This movie should be the second chapter of the starship troopers movies. A Great movie for a starship troopers fan!

A good movie! 5 Star Review
2009-10-03 - I really liked this movie! No, it's not as good as the first one, but I still liked it!

Was definitely on a budget 3 Star Review
2009-09-06 - This franchise went the way of Planet of the Apes. First movie, huge budget...by the third, you wonder why they even bothered. Sad way to see Heinlein represented.
