Description of Cry Wolf (Unrated Full Screen):
In Cry_Wolf, a group of students at a snooty prep school conjure a serial killer when someone takes a hoax a little too seriously. Owen (Julian Morris, Whirlygirl), who's just transferred to Westlake Academy, quickly becomes enamored of Dodger (Lindy Booth, Wrong Turn), a smart and sultry redhead who masterminds a game based on lying and manipulating the other players. After a murder in the nearby woods, Owen escalates the game by concocting a hoax about a serial killer called the Wolf--a hoax that swiftly turns into reality when the not-so-imaginary Wolf sends threatening e-mails to Owen. Cry_Wolf mixes your standard slasher movie with your standard secret-twist movie to no particularly effect. The Wolf--who wears an orange ski-mask and wields a hunting knife--is a generic boogeyman; text messages just aren't scary; and all the characters combined couldn't muster up an engaging personality. This movie was obviously made to fit a market niche, not because a writer or director had any genuine inspiration or had to exorcise a personal fear--but even for a b-movie this is meager stuff. Also featuring Jon Bon Jovi (Vampires: Los Muertos), Gary Cole (Office Space), and Anna Deavere Smith (The West Wing). --Bret Fetzer

Cry Wolf (Unrated Full Screen) Reviews:
Cry Wolf Is The Ultimate Game Of Deception That Could End Your Life 5 Star Review
2009-06-15 - "Cry_Wolf" is an expertly crafted mystery thriller from director Jeff Wadlow. In the vein of "Basic Instinct" and "Wild Things," this psycho-sexual horror film contains a tremendous amount of deception and manipulation.

A young girl is shot, her corpse found hidden in the woods. A group of friends at the prestigious Westlake Preparatory Academy decide to play a prank on the rest of the school. They invent a serial killer who calls himself the Wolf; responsible for murdering the townie who was found dead in the woods, he plans to kill students on Halloween night. Unfortunately, the prank becomes all too real as students are slaughtered like sheep.

"Cry_Wolf boasts quite a number of surprises and twists. The ending is quite clever and shocking. Great performances are given by leads Julian Morris ("Owen") and Lindy Booth ("Dodger") whose characters frantically search for the killer's true identity before more friends die. A good soundtrack adds to the suspense. The credits song, "Shoot Your Gun" by 22-20s, is very appropriate, much like "Fade to Black" was for "Prom Night" (the original).

I am a big fan of Italian gialli (mysteries exported from Italy during the sixties and seventies) and found "Cry_Wolf" extremely suspenseful. If you love a good mystery, then I recommend this film. Furthermore, if you have already seen "Cry_Wolf" and enjoyed it, I recommend the remake of "April Fool's Day," which also has a double twist ending that is quite diabolical.

    Woefully Bad 1 Star Review
2008-02-18 - When a supposed horror film is rated PG-13 - the original rating of this film - you know that its a bad sign from the start. That's only the beginning of the crapness of this blundering, stupid and uninvolving film which also strangely features Jon Bon Jovi in a rare acting role. The film centres around a group of school friends who love to play games with each other realising that someone is no longer playing fair or at all, for that matter. What ensues is a pointless, boring and ultimately unsatisfying ride which ends with what I can only assume was meant to be a twist ending. Don't waste your time on this rubbish.

Fan of Jon Bon Jovi 4 Star Review
2008-02-13 - I'll start by admitting that I'm of the generation that slobbered over posters of Jon Bon Jovi. Really, he's not a bad actor, though I admire his voice more. This movie is part thriller/part mind bender mystery as we try to figure out who is killing people. There are plenty of 'red herrings', and it did take me a little while, but not too long. So, it doesn't get my 'I wasn't expecting that!' excitement rating. The snotty teens are a little irritating, but their personalities realistic. Overall, I think it's a good movie, but I would've been more impressed watching it in my teens and I'm way past that age. My seventeen year old appreciated it more. If you're under the age of 25, you'll probably give it 5 stars...

Not What I Was Expecting 2 Star Review
2007-12-25 - Admittedly, after reading so many horrible reviews for Cry Wolf, I was expecting to be disappointed. However, that was not the case. Oh sure, this movie will appeal to bubble gum popping teeny boppers but I think the plot had something going for it.

I would have preferred if the kids were in college instead of high school but I guess it lends a more sinister tone to the end using high school kids.

    I wouldn't buy this movie but I'd say it's worth a rental.

How could it suck this bad? The trailer looked great! 1 Star Review
2007-11-14 - I remember seeing this trailer in the theater, and I remember whispering to my husband that we HAD to see this one. It looked so creepy! Well, it did really poorly at the box office and didn't even get to play at many theaters. Still, I rented it right away when it first came out. Critics and I (and other Amazon reviewers for that matter), don't always see eye to eye. UGH!!! How I wished I would have listened!! This was so bad, so bad in fact I don't even know where to start. The only part I liked was Jon Bon Jovi's looks, ummm...hot for teacher. Not even that could draw me in for a second viewing. Also, the volume in this dvd seemed really screwy. Maybe it was just mine but i had to turn it up super loud and even then it was hard to understand what they were saying at times. Just stay away!!!
