Editorial Review:
Chris Klein ("American Pie") and Leelee Sobieski ("Never Been Kissed") star in a "heartfelt story of romance, friendship and true love." (JUMP Magazine). Rich kid Kelley Morse (Klein) thought he had it all - money, good looks and a new Mercedes. But after
Description of Here on Earth:
Slumming among the locals of a small New York town, Kelley Morse (Chris Klein), graduating senior at a posh prep school and all-around insufferable rich kid, engages the testosterone of one of the hicks (Josh Hartnett) when he flirts with the guy's girlfriend, Samantha (LeeLee Sobieski). A car chase ensues, resulting in Samantha's family's diner getting blown up, which in turn lands the boys in hot water with the law. The upshot is the snotty rich kid is sentenced to help the locals rebuild the diner. A romance develops between Kelley and Samantha, apparently because they like a particular Robert Frost poem. So now they're deep, see. But then their love is tested when Samantha contracts Ali MacGraw disease. You know, that's the sudden disease Ali McGraw gets in Love Story--really an excuse to emphasize the strength of the characters' love. You don't know what you got till it's gone, right? This film would be pretty bad if the performances weren't so engaging, especially LeeLee Sobieski's, who seems to be channeling Helen Hunt in this movie. Though Chris Klein never makes us believe for an instant that his arrogant character could make the changes he does, or that his and Sobieski's characters could ever really get together. The script is too thin to support any motivations, and the film falls into formula weepy territory to appeal to teen tear ducts. Lovers of weepies might overlook the film's plot weaknesses in favor of the strong performances and the prospect of a good cry. --Jim Gay
Here on Earth Reviews:
"An Above Average Young Love Story"
2009-09-02 - "Here On Earth" has always been one of my favorite youth movies. The story is a simple one in which a young man has to perform manual labour for destroying a roadside diner. It is at this diner that he meets the girl of his dreams. They fall in love but there is one catch: she has a boyfriend. The story sounds simple. However it is the superb acting by the three leads that pulls this movie way above other teen-romance films. Hunky Chris Klein, most famous for his role in the "American Pie" movies, stars as the boy working at the diner. Superstar Josh Hartnett plays the "other man", and Leelee Sobieski, who looks a lot like Helen Hunt, plays the girl cought in the middle of these two studs. I truely enjoyed this film and once watching it the viewer becomes enthralled. The DVD features the video to the song from the film called "Where You Are' performed by Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey. The trailer is included with subtitles in English and Spanish. The audio is English 5.1 Surround, English Dolby Sound, and French Dolby Sound. "Teen Magazine" says "Chris Klein smolders in every scene".
A true,underrated JOSH HARTNETT gem!!!!!!!
2009-06-29 - Though many of the STUPID film critics literally TRASHED and BASHED this
film TO DEATH during its theatrical release,"HERE ON EARTH" is the perfect example of how these MORONS don't even notice A GOOD MOVIE WHEN
THEY EVEN SEE IT!!!So,why even bother listening to them!Though I did
notice some similarities between this film and the 2 movies,"THE MAN IN
THE MOON" and "LOVE STORY",this movie is still strong enough to stand
alone on its own!Since many other Amazon reviewers have already talked
about what the plot to the story is about,I won't continuously bore you
to death with yet another PLOT SYNOPSIS of the film. However,I will highlight how everyone who worked on this film did.First of all,I thought
JOSH HARTNETT turned in a truly inspiring,if not completely moving,
performance as Samantha's long-time boyfriend,Jasper, who is reluctant but
willing to let his true love go into the hands of CHRIS KLEIN'S character,KELLY,even though it is completely breaking and tearing his heart in two.LEELE SOBIESKI turns in a great performance as Samantha.
She is even brilliant in the way of even the slightest facial expression
of showing her inner turmoil and conflict channeling through her mind.
The only little qualm I have is with CHRIS KLEIN'S character. Not that
he is a bad actor by any means! He is very talented! It's just how his
character is pretty much written in the script as a jerk!Though during
the course of the film, you really do get to know much more about the
sad tragic things that have happened to him while he was growing up.Like
when he talks to Samantha about finding his mother's dead body in the
bathtub after commiting suicide with a knife, and CHRIS KLEIN does indeed
portray this quite brilliantly and believably to the point where you might actually find yourself shedding a tear or two.His character was still pretty much a jerk to hurt both Samantha and Jasper by causing her
to have doubts and to break up with Jasper. Thus, hurting everyone in the end!
Awful movie
2009-05-01 - I sat through this movie with my girlfriend, and found it to be one of the worst films ever made. I'll spare you the pain of watching it- poor girl dumps life long boyfriend for a rich a-hole. She dies of cancer. Everyone seems to be saddened by this, except for me.
TIME TO BE LOVED
2008-08-16 - I liked it. A very sweet and romantic film with a dramacit twist, as many would call a tear jerker. Yes, it makes us smile, cry and learn some lessons, lessons of love, and making what is right to amend what had been damaged. I thought the main couple was fine in their interpretations and chemistry. Even sadly, love always win! Think about it!
Here on Earth purchase review
2008-07-14 - I received this film very quickly and with no damage. I would definitely purchase from this seller again!
