The Soul Sessions Reviews:
What a waste...save your money and listen to it on the radio 1 Star Review
2004-12-19 - If you really want to hear some soul...just listen to Peggy Scout-Adams. This lady has vocals and smoothness unlike Joss who sounds as if she is grunting while she's singing. I know Betty Wright and Angie Stone (these ladies can sang) helped Joss on the vocals. So you might not be hearing as much of Joss's voice as you hear of the other ladies. If you want to listen to real music instead of marketed "white pop/black soul" then pick up a Peggy Scout Adams, Betty Wright, Karyn White, Anita Baker (old school) or more up to date with Angie Stone, Beyonce, or even a Tamia CD and then tell me if Joss has vocals compared to these ladies I think not. Joss only get credit for being a white girl that sings soulful song hey this is what made Elvis Prestley famous.

It's all a racket people not real talent...because Leela James and Joss Stone sound alike but are we hearing about Leela, I think not because she's not white.

The overrated sessions 1 Star Review
2004-09-08 - Anastacia has got an incredible voice, and yet nobody in this country even knows who she is, let alone listened to her records. She is the true queen of white soul, not this kid. I am not denying that Stone can sing--but her voice isn't that great. It is above average, but not incredible as people have made it out to be...and even in its glory, it is hardly distinctive. It's just reminiscent of any other white girl trying to sing black, really--or in Stone's case, a kid trying to sing black.

Please people, go back to your saying that Britney Spears can sing and leave soul music to the grown-ups.

Stone Soul Import 5 Star Review
2004-07-02 - Joss Stone was ready to record an album that would have put her on the same path as other teenage singers like Britney Spears. Instead she heard and fell in love with classic American soul music by the likes of Betty Wright. Soul Sessions is the fruit of that love and it is a remarkable vocal showcase. Her inspiration, Betty Wright, ends up producing seven of the tracks. The songs are mostly little known soul nuggets. Ms Stone is still young and a bit raw, but she shows a lot power with her voice. She can be rough and hard on a song like "Victim Of A Foolish Heart" but then lace it with a bit a sugar to balance it out. Soul legends, guitarist Little Beaver and pianist Latimore add some down and gritty work. Little Beaver's playing on the fabulous "The Chokin' Kind" is a reckless, soulful force. His funky riffs interact with Latimore's slinky piano perfectly to set up a growling vocal from Ms. Stone on "Dirty Man". ?uestlove from the Roots provides the album's best production on a funky reworking of The White Stripes' "Fell In Love With A Girl". Ms. Stone's version, with the title changed to reflect the singer's gender, takes the song from a guitar-drums rock song into a funk-soul burner. The song becomes Ms. Stone's and she's on fire throughout the track. The album closes on a soft and beautiful note with the heartbreaking "For The Love Of You". Ms. Stone has show on her first album that she can come up with the goods to emulate her favorite singers on cover songs, but work them in a way to make them her own. This Japanese import version contains one extra track, "The Player" which is another excellent burner of cover of The First Choice.

This Is The REAL DEAL... 5 Star Review
2004-06-18 - U see every once in a while a record exec With some Balls does the right thing and takes a chance...Keep Your Eye on this Girl... believe me, She's Goin' places!

I was blown away!! 5 Star Review
2004-05-18 - Wow!! Talk about talent! I recently became away of Joss Stone when I was channel surfing and came across divas in Vegas. There was Joss Stone with the wonderful talents of Jessica Simpson, Cyndi Lauper, and others (sorry, can't remember them all). Anyway, I couldn't believe what I was seeing and hearing. Joss Stone is not only a wonderful talent with a gorgeous and soulful voice, but her charisma is out of this world!
