Editorial Review:
This Judas Priest release includes a DVD with the 30 minute Reunited documentary that lays the ground work for first new music from the original lineup in 15 years. From the slow crescendo of guitar and a scream at the beginning, this new outing from the reformed and re-invigorated Priest states one thing very clearly: The band is back and ready to reclaim their crown as hard rock titans. The songs, production, and performances are all on par with classics such as British Steel and Screaming For Vengeance. And the album definitely makes references Priest’s past, from the opening screech of "Judas Is Rising" to more direct lyrical name-checking (Painkiller in "Demonizer" and Sad Wings of Destiny in "Angel"). But there is a newer experimentation - a slower, darker streak - also evident on Halford’s underrated Crucible, that lets the listener know the band is not resting on its laurels. The is very evident on the 10 minute closer "Lock Ness", an epic on par with songs off Opeth’s masterful Deliverance. Make no mistake: The Metal Gods are definitely back. --Robert Arambel

Angel of Retribution Reviews:
Judas Priest re-united 2004 CD/DVD dual disc. 5 Star Review
2009-12-19 - The record, Angel of Retribution was excellent, good sound quality, well crafted songs through out, and a good performance of the material from the band, known as Judas Priest, with Rob Halford returning on vocals. The flip-side of the CD, is a DVD, with 29 mins., of interviews and Live Concert footage from 2004, which would have been better, if they showed a full concert. Plus the enhanced version of Angel of Retribution, also included.

One of their best 4 Star Review
2009-12-15 - I'll start this out by commenting that I quite like Priest, but I'm not a HUGE fan - hence only 4 stars (I'd do 4 1/2 if I could). This is a really good album, but not in the league of Iron Maiden's, Blind Guardian's, Deep Purple's best in my opinion. I'd say if you like Judas Priest as much or better than the aforementioned bands, consider this a 5-star review.
There's a 13-minute epic on "Loch Ness"; while Priest have done some longer songs, they're not really known for doing the grand epics that are Iron Maiden's signature. Well, it's pretty cool, but not brilliant. And that's what keeps the last star off for me - the album ranges from pretty good to really good metal, but doesn't really cross over into that brilliant/amazing zone of my favorite albums.
I think it's every bit as good as "Sad Wings", "Screaming for Vengeance", or "Painkiller" - the songs are well written, it rocks, Halford is one of the few metal singers who doesn't seem to have lost any vocal abilities over a long career (or, if he has, he knows how to sing so you don't notice - see the aforementioned Maiden and Purple for singers who, while still great, aren't what they used to be). I'd like to commend them for keeping Roy Z (who also produced Halford's recent solo work) - he worked for Dickenson also to great effect, and Maiden made the wrong move in producer/engineers by NOT using him when they reuinited with Bruce. So, "Angel of Retribution" has a much better sound than (for example) Maiden's recent work - I don't find myself thinking "pretty good for old-timers" - it's unqualifyingly as good as their heyday, something few bands can claim.
One of the things I admire about Judas Priest is that they can move with the times without losing their identity or quality - they have some albums that are weaker and some that are stronger, but they're about the only band I can think of where these are spread evenly throughout their career - most bands have a "heyday" of maybe 5 (10 for the best) years, a few weaker albums before, and a long decline after. Most bands, if they have a good album late in the career, it's really not as good as their heyday; they're lacking in energy or creativity or somewhat repeating themselves, but I don't have that impression of Judas Priest - I would confidentally recommend this to a new fan wanting to check out the band at their best.
So, yeah, if you like classic metal or Judas Priest, you should enjoy this.
I do agree, though, with other reviewers that point out the flaws of the "dualdisc" format and the hardcover book special edition. I wish CD companies could just stick with the old tried-and-true method of making regular CDs that play in every player and putting them in sturdy jewel cases that protect the disc (and I can open with one hand in the car, where I tend to do a lot of my rockin' out). But, I'll also add that the dualdisc edition I have plays fine in my crappy car CD player, which usually has a problem with burnt, slightly scratched, and even long (over 70 min.) CDs that regular CD players play fine.

All the Best of Priest Surfaces Here 5 Star Review
2009-11-15 - I don't have much to add to what others have said. Nevertheless, I found in this recording everything I like about Priest. But this album is not a rehash of old stuff. Instead, it's as if the guys listened to all that they had recorded previously, pulled out all the elements that worked best, expertly synthesized all those elements into unmistakably new songs, and produced one of the best recordings of music around, regardless of genre. (P.S. Nostrodamus is the antithesis of Angel of Retribution. I hope that the guys return to the sort of work they have done in Angel.)

Probably the worst CD ever 1 Star Review
2009-09-11 - A long time since this album has come out, I decided to remove the dust and cobwebs and give it a second chance. I have to be TOTALLY honest...this is the same atrocity I skipped through the first and last time. Most of the songs are mindless chug...not even worth writing a track-by-track interview about. Absolutely NO creativity seeing as MOST of the songs are in the same key as well, not to mention a 5 year old could pick out where the chord progressions are going off the cuff. My biggest disappointment, however, is the modern mastering done to the songs. Something about all recordings from the 60's to early 90's that just has a complete feel to them is missing, and leaves the CD sounding empty.

I'd have to say "Angel" is the only song worth listening to, bringing me back to "Before the Dawn" times.

Overall, I give this CD a "2 Girls 1 Cup" rating....disgusting.

Judas Priest at its best 5 Star Review
2008-04-24 - After releasing two mediocre albums with Tim Owens, Judas Priest has managed to prove there are no wrinkles in a band that has been around for decades. Angel of Retribution is one of those albums worth buying not just because it is Judas Priest, but because the songs are too good to be marred by the cyber-monster called piracy.
