Metal Works '73-'93 Reviews: Metal Works '73-'93 2009-12-07 - Metal Works '73-'93 being a compilation with Judas Priest and all the tracks are selected by the band members themselves and we get liner-notes from the band members explaining why the picked the songs in question. We also get many fine photographs during the career of the band and a list of remastered albums along with the covers. Judas Priest is truly heavy metal and not rock with metal elements. Great lyrics and Halford is a very talented vocalist indeed. My favorite tracks on this compilation are "Electric Eye" and "Breaking The Law". Allmusic gave the album 4.5/5 but I up the score and give it 5. 5/5.
Great 2 Disc Comp 2009-10-08 - Priest have been considered one of the best Metal bands for years, and after only hearing a few songs of theirs on occasion on either the radio, or the interenet etc...decided to see what else they had to offer...there had to be more out there for this band to be considered so iconic and essential, right?
Upon listening to the whole set...to me their album tracks are just as vital as their so-called singles ...we've all heard "Breaking The Law", "Living After Midnight", and "Another Thing Coming"...and those are all featured here too, but hearing all the other songs which are considered classics amongst hardcore fans for years, it really makes this collection essential.
There is some depth to Judas Priest, they are not all chains and leather as it would appear, sure they are a band that has it's fist in the air anthems...but they do also have different speeds, and if you think they are only the 3 songs mentioned above, perhaps you would benefit from hearing the goods that made them one of the best Metal bands ever.
All the good stuff is here 2009-08-08 - When I think of true heavy metal groups, the first band I think of is Judas Priest, followed by Iron Maiden. Judas Priest's sound is what true heavy metal sounds like - a heavy sound with screaming guitars and booming drums. I purchased Metalworks in 1995 and I listen to it so often I might wear it out. This is a compilation double album of their best material covering a twenty year period. Appropriately, The first CD begins with The Hellion/Electric Eye back-to-back. It's a good way to begin a CD. From there, you'll rock out with such songs as the ferocious Painkiller, Eat Me Alive, Devil's Child, Exciter, Breaking The Law, Hell Bent For Leather, Metal Gods, Before The Dawn, and Metal Meltdown, to name a few. The second CD is just as heavy, with songs like Screaming For Vengeance, You've Got Another Thing Comin', Solar Angels, Bloodstone, Desert Plains, "Wild Nights, Hot And Crazy Days," Living After Midnight, The Rage, Sinner, Freewheel Burning and Night Crawler.
If you want to rock with a true heavy metal band, get this double CD. There are 32 Priest classics. This is a good introduction set. Highly recommended.
A great compilation! 2009-05-25 - I realize that this isn't a greatest hits collection, but regardless, this is an awesome compilation of tracks! I feel that they have included some often overlooked tracks, such as Devil's Child (one of my favorites!) You can hear some tracks that possibly haven't seen heavy rotation and you can also hear some different tracks that represent the many facets of Priest's sound. Looking forward to seeing them this summer with Whitesnake!
Very poor ! 2007-12-27 - Some bands of the 80's are still interesting to listen to, Judas Priest is not one of these. Sorry, but I'll give this one to somebody because for sure, I won't listen to it again until the rest of my life.
The band sounds completely out dated and the musical structure is simple and boring. Get a couple cd's of Iron Maiden instead, they were and still are great musicians and their music is still actual.
