The Best of Judas Priest Reviews:
Awesome
2009-01-03 - What's with the poor reviews?
Get rid of the interviews and this is a great album. However, some might be interested in those...
These tracks are easily some of the best that Judas Priest ever did. This is good raw rock and roll at it's best. LOVE IT.
The band's first two albums are among their best
2008-05-25 - When I discovered 'The Best of Judas Priest,' I was quick to pick it up. Sure, I could definitely do without the interviews. It is interesting to hear how Rob Halford started Priest, but we listen for the music, not the talking.
And Priest's first two albums get great coverage here. And it's about time. While their records on Epic (now owned by Columbia) got the most radio airplay, their first two records hold a special place in my heart.
And all of their early hits are here. 'Victim of Changes' was their primary early years hit, so of course that's going to be on here. And it's also nice to see the studio version of 'Tyrant' appearing on here as well.
I would recommend this set to any Priest fan. It's classic early years material that's well worth checking out. Highly recommended for any Priest fan. Some classic early stuff. ENJOY!!!
Not only is it pointless, it's also not sanctioned by the band
2006-07-10 - First of all, there's a reason this so-called "best of" compilation doesn't contain most of Judas Priest's signature tunes: it was actually first released back in 1978, by a small independent label called Gull Records which put out JP's first two proper albums "Rocka Rolla" and "Sad Wings of Destiny." And indeed, it is just a sampler of songs from those two albums. Gull released it shortly after Judas Priest moved on to sign with CBS Records and released their first major-label album "Sin After Sin."
If you like the songs on this album (and they are pretty good, and an interesting document on Judas Priest's early formative years), you might as well just dish out the extra money and buy "Rocka Rolla" and "Sad Wings of Destiny" in their entirety. The only thing that "Best of" has that those first two albums don't have is the interviews with old Judas Priest drummer John Hinch. According to the band's official web site, those interviews are misleading and full of lies, and Hinch was let go because they found him musically inadequate. What's more, the band does not encourage their fans to buy this so-called "best of" album.
Don't buy it! you are getting ripped off!!!
2004-12-03 - This is another attempt by Gull records/Transluxe/Koch records to cash in on the Judas Priest name. This album, Genocide and Hero, Hero are substandard, unauthorized reissues of the early JP catalog. The sound quality sucks and despite what the back cover says, there are no interviews with Rob, KK, Glenn or Ian. The only interviews on this are with Jon Hinch, a really old drummer of Priest, I think for a month or two. According to the JP website everything in this interview is complete garbage and utter nonsense. There is nothing on this release that you won't find on the actual albums, which are still available through Cdnow/Amazon. Be careful what you buy. If it says Gull records, Transluxe or Koch records you are getting ripped off. Support Judas Priest, the best heavy metal band of all time, and don't waste your money on this crap.
This is a joke, right?
2004-10-07 - I agree with DK, where the hell are "Painkiller", "You've Got Another Thing Comin'", "Electric Eye", "Breaking the Law", "Turbo Lover", "Hell Patrol", etc.? Second, why the hell would you put INTERVIEWS on a BEST OF CD? And you thought the regular version was incomplete. DON'T EVER BUY THIS ONE!!!
