After more than 12 years apart Judas Priest and original lead vocalist Rob Halford reunited for a global live concert tour in 2004. They were a main attraction on the sell-out Ozzfest tour playing to enormous and enthusiastic audiences nationwide. Rising In the East was filmed in May 2005 at Tokyo's famous Budokan. The DVD captures the band at their metal best, performing all of the classics-"Electric Eye," "Breaking the Law," "Living After Midnight," "You've Got Another Thing Coming," and much more. Track Listings: Hellion, Electric Eye, Metal Gods, Riding on the Wind, Ripper, Touch of Evil, Judas Rising, Revolution, Hot Rockin', Breaking the Law, I'm A Rocker, Diamonds and Rust, Worth Fighting For, Deal with the Devil, Beyond the Realms of Death, Turbo Lover, Hellrider, Victim of Changes, Exciter, Painkiller, Hell Bent For Leather, Living After Midnight, You've Got Another Thing Coming

Judas Priest - Rising in the East Reviews:
    ROCKS!!!! 5 Star Review
2009-07-11 - Simple - if you like Judas Priest this is a GREAT CONCERT with great sound. Just wonder why they couldn't have done a "Rising in the West"? Only way this could be any better is if you could buy a Blue Ray version!

Old school Judas Priest represented well 4 Star Review
2009-05-09 - Tracks 1-16 define the legacy of Priest metal. Ian Hill has the bottom covered in sound and stage presence. Glenn is as always the melodic metal guitarist willing to fulfill the rhythm needs of the song, while KK is a consummate shredder. The energy of these 2 in this show rivals the last time I saw them on the Defenders Of The Faith tour 1984; >2 decades ago. Most notable is Yoda's, I mean Rob Halford's return as vocalist (not front man). Halford has taken a cue from Ozzy as presenting a low energy but highly faithful-to-the-studio-version of each song. Scott Travis competently fills the Priest's need for a drummer--kind of Spinal Tap like. In a late 80's interview, Downing & Tipton claim that `playing with confidence' i.e., not pushing the limits of their guitar chops onstage was key to their success. Contrarily, Hellrider and Painkiller present the post '80's Priest that followed the trend of rhythm (shred) at the expense of melody. Similarly, Victim Of Changes is updated to include a middle section of absolute unmusical chaos, but is otherwise recommendable. The final 3 tracks are trite rehashes of their obligatory concert finale & encore songs. Riding On the Wind & Hot Rockin' are the standout tracks. Others see the inclusion of the Ram It Down song, I'm A Rocker as positive: I have never given the song a second thought--it does not belong in this set & without it there is room for The Sentinel or Night Comes Down, which was the highlight of Ozzfest a few years ago. In short Rising In The East is not perfect but is 80% recommendable.

The PRIEST is BACK 5 Star Review
2009-04-20 - I was really keen when Angel of Retribution came out.

Not only was it Priest's "reunion" album, but it felt more like a natural continuation of the band (vs. something like "KISS: Psycho Circus").

The songs were epic. The writing amazing. Rob Halford...were the HECK have you BEEN?!?

This DVD more than anything shows that, while Ripper Owens is an AMAZING talent, Priest can't be Priest without Rob. There are over TWENTY tracks in this concert, all of which the band totally nail.

The only downside of this disc, and it's no reason to take away a star, is that the effects are diminished from previous shows, and Rob is way less active. I do miss the "Defenders of the Faith" type of "motion" sets. Priest seems content lately with changing background panels/flags instead of moving props - a shame.

That aside, the show looks great, sounds great, reunites Priest in Japan, and proves the Priest are indeed Metal Gods.

Ohhh ya, the Priest is back!!!! 5 Star Review
2009-01-12 - I have been a fan of Judas Priest for over 30 years now. I loved this video. Well done, good sound and a great cross section of their work. I have seen them live countless times and they put on a live show like no other. If you have never had the opportunity to catch them live them you have to own this. If you have, then get it anyway and remind yourself just exactly why you are a fan of the Priest. All hail the Metallion!!!

Huge Priest fan, pretty good album 3 Star Review
2008-06-06 - This live album is somewhat the antithesis of their seminal live album, 1979's "Unleashed in the East". That one was scaled down, fast, and raw. In fact, I think they hurt the songs by not giving them thick crunch and dialing back on the RPM. Rising does justice to classics like Ripper, Exciter, and Green Manalishi, which should be played mid-tempo (or slightly slower) to bring out their power. OTOH, I routinely skip Breaking the Law, Living After Midnight, etc., because they're live pop staples and ehh. In fact, it seems they've slowed all the songs down so that he doesn't have to sing as fast. As I said a moment ago, that's actually a good thing. One odd thing about Rob is that he actually looks better older. Ok, maybe not 55 old -- though he still has plenty of charisma -- but when he was younger he actually looked too "pretty boy" to pull of the metal thing. If you like old metal, you'll enjoy this album, even though Rob's voice is shot on it.
