Editorial Review:
LOVE ME IF YOU DARE depicts the romantic story of Julian and Sophie, who meet in grade school and create an intense game of "Dare" to distract them from the harsh realities of their lives. Over time their game becomes a mutual infatuation that binds them for life. Ultimately the childhood game remains with them into adulthood where it challenges their most cherished fantasies. Eventually, each of them is forced to decide between the game and genuine romance.
Description of Love Me If You Dare:
A huge hit in France, Love Me if You Dare takes the traditional l'amour fou scenario and runs it through a pinball machine. From childhood, Julien and Sophie engage in an obsessive battle of one-upmanship: if one of them hands a brightly colored candy tin to the other and makes a dare, the recipient is bound to honor it, no matter how destructive or dangerous the dare might be. When this wacky habit enters adulthood and begins wrecking their lives, they ought to change... but that's not how l'amour fou works. Part Amelie-style comedy, part dark fable, this movie has quirkiness to burn, if not always as much charm as it thinks it has. Leads Guillaume Canet and Marion Cotillard are ardent, although somewhat out-acted by their juvenile counterparts in the film's early section. If you're curious about what would've happened to Amelie if she took her obsession to its logical conclusion, hop aboard. --Robert Horton
Love Me If You Dare Reviews:
favorite love story
2009-09-29 - this movie makes me so happy to watch. ive seen it so many times that reading the subtitles arent even an effort. the 2 main characters you fall in love with, and care about their journey into one anothers hearts. a love that is never dull, thats for sure.
Watch This Movie, Gap or No Gap?
2009-05-23 - I saw a preview of `Love Me If You Dare' while I was about to watch another flick with two girl friends, and it was so compelling that I immediately stopped watching that movie to hunt for Love Me If You Dare in local movie stores.
This movie did not disappoint our expectations; this movie is easily my second favorite movie of all time (next to Almost Famous) and my favorite romance movie of all time. I show it to every friend or acquaintance at every possible opportunity; I've bought roughly six copies of this DVD and given four of them out.
The love relationship of Julien and Sophie is passionate, intense, and destructive, but in the end it is very touching. Growing up together, they form a true bond of friendship in a chaotic atmosphere. They are broken and haphazard with their emotions, which bring this movie together in a perfect way to relate that love is not chic; the stars rarely align to form that perfect attraction-to-relationship time span that encompasses all of two weeks. Julien and Sophie's love takes years, and that's where the true beauty sets in.
The end of this movie will cause disarray and contemplation on its meaning, leaving open to interpretation to yourself and amongst friends what eternal love is all about and the fates of Julien and Sophie. Not everyone will agree or like the ending, but I encourage you to give it a second and third watch; each time I see this movie, I come to different conclusions about life, love, and relationships. This is what makes Love Me If You Dare such a spectacular movie.
Not a review but WOW...
2009-04-30 - This is definitely one of my favorite movies EVER, and I'm in disbelief at how expensive it is now.
I really love this movie, and four years ago I used to rent this movie repeatedly for weeks on end before I decided to order a copy for myself. I remember getting it for UNDER $10 back then.
I've had 2 copies, which I've lent to other people and have now disappeared... I guess to join all those missing socks I keep losing too.
I've never been able to find this dvd at any video stores so my best bet is to order it online but come to find out that it has well over quadrupled in price.
Wow...

2008-12-08 - I was reluctant to watch this film at first, and let me say, I was an idiot!
The movie is wonderfully directed, beautifully acted, and well written as well as creative.
From the first moment when you see the very lovely Marion Cotillard, I was hooked. It is witty, fun, and has some great metaphorical storytelling scenes that make you wonder what happened for a second, only to then realize the beauty of it.
I love it. Mind you, it is in French (with subtitles for us Americans) and no english audio track, so if you are totally against subtitles, I am sorry, but you will miss out on a character adventure that is smart and playful.
I love it.
End it before it ends!
2008-11-16 - The excellent short story "A Perfect Day for Bananafish" by J.D. Salinger goes on one page too long. So, when I reread it. . .and I do. . .I quit the story with Sybil and Seymour coming ashore from their afternoon swim. It is true Seymour--it is his fate as the most gifted poet in the Glass family--must die. But not here.
Likewise, "Love Me If You Dare (Are You Game?)" should end sooner. And, when I watch it again. . .and I plan to because, for a while it is a great movie: charming and moving at the beginning, edgy and true in the middle. . .I will stop it early into chapter 9 as the tin rolls down the church aisle. . .End it!
End it! Quit this film before it, like Seymour Glass, commits suicide.
