Another John Grisham legal thriller comes to the screen, pairing Denzel Washington and Julia Roberts in a film directed by Alan J. Pakula, who is known for dark-hued suspense pictures such as Klute, The Parallax View, All the President's Men, and Presumed Innocent. The Pelican Brief isn't up to the level of those films, but it is a perfectly entertaining movie about a law student (Roberts) whose life is endangered when she discovers evidence of a conspiracy behind the killings of two Supreme Court justices. She enlists the help of an investigative reporter (Washington) and the two become fugitives. The charisma and chemistry of the leads goes a long way toward compensating for the story's shortcomings, as does a truly impressive supporting cast that includes Sam Shepard, John Heard, James B. Sikking, Tony Goldwyn, Stanley Tucci, Hume Cronyn, John Lithgow, William Atherton, and Robert Culp. --Jim Emerson

2009-12-27 - this is a great movie. Keeps you on the edge of your seat. Of course with actors like Denzel Washington & Julia Roberts, how could it possibly go wrong?

2009-12-27 - A good see for a rainy day at home, good movie to have in the library for the price, definitely have to pay attention to the movie or you'll get lost, its not going to be a classic but its a decent movie. Not for kids because they will lose interest plus some content they shouldn't see

Excellent movie & story
2009-11-12 - I have been a fan of John Grisham ever since I read his first book, "A Time To Kill". I also own every move that has been made from his books. I'm slowly but surely replacing the movies with BluRay copies. The version I purchased from Amazon is excellent. I highly recommend it. I am also a fan of Julia Roberts and Denzel Washington.

Great Blu-ray!
2009-10-19 - Warner did a very good job on this older material. The picture is clear without any dirt or dropouts. Sharpness is on a very high level, especially the close-ups show every detail like a single hair or pore. One negative point is the lack of any bonus, but what the hell... at this price!
