Saturday Night Live the Best of '06/'07 (Widescreen) Reviews:
2006-2007 One of the best!
2008-09-21 - The DVD features clips from some of the funniest episodes ever in SNL...Justin Timberlake, Jake Gyllenhaal and Julia Louis-Dreyfus were the best, and "Two A-Holes": absolute classic!
Funny!!
2008-08-19 - It was pretty funny, but I wish they would have had some more skits from Justin Timberlake. Then it would have been a five star item!
Worth the price
2008-06-14 - This DVD has the sketch with Peyton Manning and Will Forte as a basketball coach doing the most ridiculous dance to try to inspire his team. Watch it and just try not to laugh out loud.
Extras push it over the top for me...
2008-03-23 - A 90-minute dvd of the supposed best of '06/'07 season. These SNL "best of" collection's are always hit or miss so people's mileage may vary, but i found this one to be good enough. I liked most of these and can easily see myself coming back to them from time to time making it a worthy purchase(especially for under $10 bucks as it stands now). For those on the fence, maybe the 'exclusive' extras might do the trick as i found these to be rather enjoyable as well:
* audio commentary- mostly enjoyable to listen to as there are some laughs to be had due to the participation of some cast/writers who worked on the skits. Problem is, it's not a group of them sitting together watching the entire dvd commenting, only members that have something to do with that skit. So if something funny is going on in one segment's commentary, it's over once a new skit starts with the next batch of commentators.
* uncensored **** in a box video.
* photo gallery- about 15 in a slideshow.
* 2 never-before-seen sketches, one with Keenan Thompson(as a woman) and Peyton Manning which was ok. The other one was pretty good though with Fred Armison and Justin Timberlake. Say what you will about JT, but the guy seems to have a sense of humor about himself and he usually is in some of my favorite sketches(as one of the Gibb brothers, as an omelette, something-or-other in a box, and in this sketch a stockboy). And yes, he gets to do some of his dance moves in this one too(is this contractual?).
* Outtakes from "Weekend Update"- this one put the extras over the top for me. The updates are usually my favorites so it was great to see this bonus. Even though you get the 'rejects'/jokes-gone-bad, it's fun to watch how Seth and Amy handle it. It runs almost 6 minutes.
Overall, the dvd is recommended at a cheap price as it's something you'll watch more than once or twice. Btw, on the back cover it says English Dolby Digital 5.1(i'll take their word on that), Anamorphic widescreen 1.78:1(check), subtitles SDH(could not access this on two dvd players, but maybe it's just me).
Slim Pickings
2008-03-19 - Either 06/07 was a horrible season, resulting in very few clips to release, or SNL is very stingy about these DVDs. This is the first one I bought and I was shocked by how little made it on this release. It started off with Jake Gyllenhaal's opening monologue, then skipped over the rest of his show and flitted over other shows with 1-2 clips max from each. There were no other monologues. It's very much like the "Best of" shows you would see on the E channel - brief and leaving you feeling short-changed. I deeply regret this purchase.
If you're looking for a particular show, go to amazon video download feature (which lets you purchase a show, though it looks like even that's edited down) or go to the SNL website which will give you A LOT more clips to see than this DVD.
