Description of How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days (Widescreen Edition):
Kate Hudson twinkles as the heroine of How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, a magazine writer assigned to date a guy, make all the mistakes girls make that drive guys away (being clingy, talking in baby-talk, etc.), and record the process like a sociological experiment. However, the guy she picks--rangy Matthew McConaughey--is an advertising executive who's just bet that he can make a woman fall in love with him in ten days; if he succeeds, he'll win a huge account that will make his career. The set-up is completely absurd, but the collision of their efforts to woo and repel creates some pretty funny scenes. McConaughey's easy charm and Hudson's lightweight impishness play well together and the plot, though strictly Hollywood formula, chugs along efficiently. At moments Hudson seems to channel her mother, Goldie Hawn, to slightly unnerving effect. --Bret Fetzer

2009-11-30 - I just recently saw this movie at a friend's house, and here's what I thought:
Good: Considering I am not a huge fan of romantic comedies, I found this one to be funny and entertaining, and not boring in the least. I liked the plot of the movie because it was different and the actors had a good chemistry. I thought the things Hudson's character did was hilarious (like taking him to a Celine Dion concert, sending him to get her a soda during the last minute of a Kings/Knicks game,etc...)! Very funny stuff!
Bad: Just as the movie was going very smoothly, it made a sort of "U-Turn" near the end. I didn't like how Hudson's character "Andie" and McConaughey's character, "Ben" reacted upon finding out they were with each other because of a bet, as that just didn't make sense at all -- and I wish the ending would have been different because of that. These are the reasons I gave it two stars instead of three.
Overall, an entertaining movie!

2009-11-01 - I can't believe I haven't seen this movie till now. What a great piece of entertainment! I laughed so hard I had tears in my eyes.
One of the best romantic comedies out there. If you haven't seen it yet--get it now!

2009-10-22 - Don't ask me how many times I have seen this movie! Makes no difference, I would watch it again and again and again....never get tired of it.
Sweet Date, with obstacles 
2009-10-12 - Really cute story on finding and losing a love, and of course Kate and Matthew had their usual chemistry onscreen going for them. The wagers were the tag the movie hung on, but I'd loved to have seen the two girls that instigated the bets with a little more egg on their face.
Always brings a smile
2009-08-28 - This is one film I can watch over and over again. The characters are well-drawn and the there's strong chemistry between the leads (strangely missing from the sequel, "Fool's Gold.") I can't agree that it's predictable in the first and second acts. Even the third act is a surprise, but I'll grant you the conclusion is the weakest point of the film as it crosses the line (briefly) from sophisticated comedy into slapstick.
The Blu Ray transfer seems washed out compared to the saturated colors of the DVD. But the picture is sharper. The extras I think were included on the last DVD release of a few years ago. I would have wished for a "Director's Cut" in this release, restoring the scenes that were removed to fit the 2-hour theatrical release timeframe but otherwise worth keeping in the film. Maybe they'll consider this for the 10th Anniversary in 2013?
