Editorial Review:
HARRY FEVERSHAM IS A BRITISH SOLDIER WITH A GOLDEN FUTURE - UNTIL HE INEXPLICABLY RESIGNS FROM HIS REGIMENT. HARRY IS BRANDED A COWARD, DISOWNED BY HIS FAMILY, HIS BEAUTIFUL FIANCE& HIS BEST FRIEND. HARRY RECEIVES NEWS THAT HIS REGIMENT HASBEEN BRUTALLY ATTACKED SO HE SETS OUT SAVE THEIR LIVES.
Description of The Four Feathers:
The seventh filming of A.E.W. Mason's classic 1902 novel, this near-epic production of The Four Feathers looks great, sounds great, and feels rather average. It would be difficult to diminish the rousing adventure of Mason's novel, and director Shekhar Kapur (Elizabeth) certainly gets more bang for his buck, with massive battle scenes and rugged, sun-baked harshness enhanced by Robert Richardson's masterful cinematography. Kapur preserves the universal appeal of the story, set in the 1880s, in which a promising soldier (Heath Ledger) resigns on the eve of battle in Britain's Sudanese campaign, is labeled a coward by his fiancée (Kate Hudson), and redeems himself by posing as a Muslim warrior to rescue his best friend Jack (Wes Bentley) from certain death in the desert. For all its heroics, however, the film seems oddly passionless; Djimon Hounsou is excellent as Ledger's desert guardian, but these young Hollywood stars lack the authenticity of Zoltan Korda's 1939 film, which remains the definitive version. --Jeff Shannon
The Four Feathers Reviews:
Four Feathers - DVD
2009-11-05 - Love this movie. Searched to buy it. Found it at Amazon.com and ordered. Was shipped within couple of days. The DVD arrived within couple of days after shipped. Quality was good. Enjoyed watching it couple of times already. Glad to add it to my collection. Best part of all....this DVD was about half the price of a new DVD at the store. At this rate, I can add several more DVD movies to my collection....Hooray for Amazon.com.
Disappointing for a Heath Ledger movie
2009-11-02 - Ok, I've always been a huge fan of Heath Ledger. I didn't like this movie.
A movie worth watching
2009-08-02 - Four Feathers brings to the screen the story of a young British officer who resigns his commission prior to being sent Africa due to cowardice. The setting is Victorian England, and a group of young promising British officers is about to be sent to the Sudan to help quell an uprising by the unruly natives. One officer, however, who fears that he will not live to marry his fiancée walks out on his job, his friends, and his family for a future with his beloved. When he receives four feathers as a sign of cowardice, he is forced to reconsider his plans, particularly, in light of the fourth feather being from his soon-to-be wife...
Heath Ledger and the rest of the cast carry out their performances well, nevertheless, it is Djimon Hounsou that steals the show. On the down side, Kate Hudson and the character she played were not that good or interesting for that matter.
Overall, the setting (!), the dialogues, the costumes (!), and the music are all very good.
In short, Four Feathers is a film worth watching as it will surely provide for an evening's entertainment.
Lovely movie
2009-05-08 - Four Feathers was overlooked in the theatres, but for fans of Heath Ledger, it's a must see. It shows his versatility, and the story is interesting and intriguing.
Spell Bound Drama
2009-03-24 - A must have in movie collection. A movie that keep you glued in your seat a must have.
