Editorial Review:
Return to those days of old when knights were bold and baseball ruled the land. Baseball? It's Camelot meets the sandlot in Disney's A KID IN KING ARTHUR'S COURT, the hilarious update of Mark Twain's timeless "A Connecticut Yankee In King Arthur's Court." To 14-year-old little leaguer Calvin Fuller, life is like one big strikeout when he lets his team down. Then an earthquake sends him through a magical time rift, and he finds himself in King Arthur's court. But all is not well with the realm. An aged King Arthur is in danger of losing control to the evil Lord Belasco, and now it's up to Calvin to save the kingdom. But before he can find a way to vanquish Belasco, he must first find a way to conquer his own fears. Now you can own Disney's marvelous mixture of medieval myth and modern mirth that will have the whole family cheering!
Description of A Kid in King Arthur's Court:
Faith in oneself is crucial but often difficult to develop. Calvin Fuller (Thomas Ian Nicholas), a misfit from the 20th-century "Knights" baseball team, lacks self-confidence. Imagine his alarm when he's sucked into the Middle Ages to answer the wizard Merlin's (Ron Moody) plea for a "Knight" to save King Arthur and Camelot from the scheming Lord Belasco (Art Malik). Intense culture shock befalls all involved as a bewildered Calvin dines on pig snouts and learns to lance while King Arthur (Joss Ackland) and his court members are confounded by 20th-century inventions like rock & roll and roller-blading. Eventually, Calvin's interactions with the king and his court spark a journey of personal growth that leads to love and a newfound confidence that enables him to help King Arthur, Princesses Katey (Paloma Baeza) and Sarah (Kate Winslet), and Camelot as a whole. Will Calvin's confidence accompany him back to the 20th-century? Loosely based on Mark Twain's A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court. (Ages 5 and older) --Tami Horiuchi

a kid in king arthur's court review
2009-05-28 - I have always loved this movie. It's rather cheesy but it's a fun adventure. I have it on Vhs but I thought it was time for an upgrade.
Fun to see a VERY young Daniel Craig...
2008-05-12 - ...In a role he'd probably like to pretend never happened! (But he looks darn cute, though!)
For the kids, this is not one of Disney's better flicks. Plot is silly & predictable. Special effects are surprisingly cheap looking (especially for a Disney film). But there is nothing offensive to worry about as a parent, and it's a decent film to run on the DVD player on a raining Saturday when the kids are chanting "I'm bored. I'm bored."
For Daniel Craig fans, it's good for a chuckle to see him in one of his very earliest roles (nothing like his usual edgy work - he must have had the rent due when this role was offered to him!) His shaggy, slightly surfer-style haircut reminds you of Duran Duran. Very cute in silly medieval costume. He was funny at times, with a bit of silliness in the role that makes me wish he'd let down his "artistic standards" and do a romantic comedy (*SIGH*).
Family-friendly entertainment.
A Literary Fantasy Get a Kid Friendly Makeover
2007-11-10 - Calvin Fuller (Thomas Ian Nichols) has just lost the big baseball game for his little league team, the Reseda Knights. The worse part is, he didn't even try but just stood there as he struck out. Just as he's returning to the dug out, an earthquake hits, and Calvin is swallowed by the giant hole that opens in the ground.
To his surprise, Calvin lands in 6th century England. Because his appearance foiled the Black Knight, Calvin is hailed as a hero by the aging King Arthur (Joss Ackland).
However, all is not rosy in Camelot. Lord Belasco (Art Malik) has turned the people against Arthur and plans to get his hands on the crown by whatever means he can. In fact, this is the very reason that Merlin (Ron Moody) has summoned Calvin. But Calvin is a kid who can't even muster the courage to swing a bat. Can he find the courage to defeat the evil Belasco?
I first saw this movie when it was in the theater and loved it. I hadn't seen it since but rewatched it recently. It lost some of its charm in those years, but it was still plenty fun. Based loosely on a Mark Twain classic, it keeps the action moving forward. There were lots of laughs as Calvin tried to explain himself in the historical setting. The movie is predictable, but that doesn't really dampen any of the fun. Some of the scenes of special effects haven't aged well, but all the actors take it seriously enough to make that a minor point.
This will easily entertain kids. Parents will find it amusing if not as captivating as their kids will.
Sweeet dude!!
2007-03-02 - This movie is really sci-fi and good with kindergarteners. It is totally rad dudes and dudettes. It sweet. I would steal excalibur though if i was the kid. He should take it and run. I want my own equiizer that they metion in the movie.
Two Stars
2007-02-05 - I rated this 2 stars because there are TWO STARS in the film. Kate Winslet from Titanic , Etc. and the new James Bond 007 (Casino Royale) Daniel Craig. My Daughter is a huge Daniel Craig fan and she got the film just to see what he looked like before she was one year old. (she's now 12) This is run of the mill, every line is predictable stuff but, I must say after having taken my daughter to see Casino Royale 9 times, this was a real hoot!!! It is fun seeing actors early in their career paying their dues. i have seen an episode of the old 1950's TV series Highway Patrol and it had Clint Eastwood as a Biker. It was one of the first things he ever did. Anyway, I would reccommend this movie if you need a good laugh, unintentional as it may be.
