Editorial Review:
It's comedy that's out of its mind (and the drunk-driving test is really, really hard!). Director Carl Reiner and star Steve Martin put their manic brains together in The Man with Two Brains, spoofing mad-scientist movies with a madder scientist: Dr. Hfuhruhurr (Martin), smitten with a disembodied brain he plans to implant into a curvaceous vixen (Kathleen Turner). The zaniness continues in My Blue Heaven, which asks Can an urban hood be happy with suburbanhood? Martin is a mob informant tucked away in a Witness Protection Program. Backup includes comedy reliables Rick Moranis, Joan Cusack, screenwriter Nora Ephron and director Herbert Ross. Laugh 'til you're blue!
My Blue Heaven / The Man with Two Brains Reviews:
chuckles galore
2009-05-12 - These two movies are Steve Martin classics created by what used to be a comic genius prior to selling out and doing crap flicks like "Father of the Bride," "Cheaper by the Dozen" and quite possibly the worst movie of all time, "The Pink Panther." The quality was superior and price was a bargain.
Great Steve Martin double feature.
2009-02-27 - This great double feature DVD is a must have for fans of Steve Martin. Steve Martin in my honest opinion is one of the funniest comedians ever and one of the best original cast members of SNL, his older films were obviously the best and these two present some of his best work. If only some of his more recent stuff was as good as these films, but unfortunately they aren't.
In My Blue Heaven, Steve Martin plays a gangster named Vinnie who carries on his dodgy deals even when he's taken into the witness protection program. These shenanigans cause Vinnie to run afoul of the local authorities, which makes life difficult for the uptight and nerdy FBI agent (Rick Moranis) assigned to protect him. Soon the agent is struggling to keep Vinnie out of the clutches of a tough-as-nails assistant D.A. (Joan Cusack) who wants to see him behind bars. You can't help but like this guy! Watch as he tries to ditch Rick's character in the airport. There are many familiar faces in the cast and a happy ending to boot. Great stuff and funny as hell!.
In The Man With Two Brains, Martin plays Dr. Michael Hfuhruhurr (a name that's impossible to pronounce) who excels as a brain surgeon and who also falls in love with a dis-membered brain in a jar, and Kathleen Turner was perfect as the heartless gold-digger wife role, she was just as funny too. The Man With Two Brains was an excellent sci/fi comedy film, it deserves to be up there with Airplane! and The Naked Gun in the best 'stupid-funny' films of all time. There's this hilarious scene where he's talking to a picture of his dead wife trying to ask her permission if he could marry the attractive gold digger (Kathleen Turner) and asks for a sign from god or something if he's doing the right thing, then all of a sudden lightning strikes and there's this weird spooky voice, so he decides to keep the picture in the closet, HILARIOUS STUFF! Steve Martin's comic timing was perfect and had me laughing out loud several times. These two films were alot of fun and I highly recommend these brilliant comedies especially if your a Steve Martin fan, enjoy!.
very pleased
2009-02-11 - I love a good comedy & Steve Martin has made some really funny movies. These are great movies if you like to laugh.
Thats my philosophy.....
2008-07-09 - My Blue Heaven is a classic bit of comedy acted to perfection by Steve Martin. As with each of his movies he is funny throughout. And watching a good movie is a lot of fun, hey that's my philosophy, I should write that down.
Always fun to watch.
2006-07-10 - Even though "The Man With Two Brains" isn't as good as "My Blue Heaven", Steve Martin fans can't go wrog with this DVD -- especially for the price!
