Editorial Review:
Suburban loner, gifted guitarist, drug addict, planinum-plated superstar: Keith Urban has squeezed a lot of living into his 40 years. FORTUNATE SON, the first biography of this movie-star-handsome country hero, tells the unlikely story of how Urban followed and eventually fulfilled his dream of being a country music star. In an age when a crew of crack Nashville songwriters generate most of the hit songs recorded in Music City, Urban is an anomaly: actually writing, or at least co-writing, most of his material. Many feel he has watered down his rootsy take on country music to please the masses, but Urban's success is undeniable: to date he has sold more than five million albums, has scored five US Number One singles and typically sells out his stadium-sized shows in minutes. And his very public relationship with Nicole Kidman, whom he married in an A-list affair in June 2006, has earned Urban a totally new audience, as gossip mags across the planet chart the Kurbans every move, and most recently the pregnancy and birth of their long-wished-for child, Sunday Rose. Fearfully frank and authoritative, and based upon extensive interviews with friends, foes and Urban insiders, FORTUNATE SON reveals how Keith Urban lived out his childhood dream - and the price he s had to pay to reach the top of the music business.

Fortunate Son: The Unlikely Rise of Keith Urban Reviews:
Disappointed - Nothing of Note 1 Star Review
2009-10-25 - I was very disappointed in this book. Much of it is spent on Keith's childhood and very early days in Australia, and when it does move on to Keith's arrival in Nashville circa 1992, there is little new to be learned outside of small tidbits of who was a fan, etc. The author's theme of the book could be captured in "Cute, Talented, Easy to Like". Most of us who are fans of KU already know that. While the author makes an attempt to describe how hard it was for Keith to break into Nashvile - the 1 star is for some of those insights, especially the fact that Jerry Flowers knows all and speaks none of it - my respect for him grows. I was hoping for more but should have realized that an unauthorized biography was not going to do anything but rehash already released and printed information. Those who would not speak with the author were numerous and were the people who can give more insight into Keith. I felt strangely sad after reading this and thought the account of the "Kurbans" was somewhat mean-spirited. Maybe a talent as deep and natural as Keith's just can't be described or defined, and the reasons for his own drive kept close to the vest. I learned nothing new about Keith himself. I have a gently used copy for sale.

Keith Urban a fantastic musician 5 Star Review
2009-10-24 - If for any reason you have never been to, or listened to Keith Urban you are missing something wonderful. If I find myself in a funk all I need to do is slip in any one of my cd's and I am lifted and singing along. You should try it just for fun. A Great Fan, Bluemoon

Disjointed 2 Star Review
2009-05-26 - A quick guilty pleasure. I love Keith Urban and this book does a fair job of capturing bits & pieces of his life. However, the chronology jumps around too much. Just as I begin to get a feel for Keith's evolution, the chapter (even paragraph) will flashback to commentary from years prior that don't seem to help clarify what Keith may have been going thru. This book doesn't bash Keith, but it comes close. It's like it wants to, but can't due to lack of material. I was left thinking the author was disappointed that Keith life wasn't more scandalous. The scandals that were there were no more intense than a normal person. In fact Keith has two major ex's. I mean really - Handsome country/rock star with unlimited talent that chose to grow up, face and beat down his demons to become a mature husband and father. Addictions aside, not much foder here for those looking for juicy details. I for one am very proud of Keith and (unless he goes man-diva) will always buy his albums.

Better than nothing... 3 Star Review
2009-05-18 - I did learn a bit, but I was disappointed in all the info about other artists. I enjoyed some of the photos, but it could have included some recent ones. The focus was on showing him as unattractive. If you're a devoted fan, it's worth it. Otherwise, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Kind of a boring read. With this subject, it could have been more smooth.

AMAZING!!! 5 Star Review
2009-03-03 - OK, im only 13. I read this book because i'm obsessed with this man and his wonderful music!
I was expecting the standard "Keith Lionel Urban was born on October 26, 1967 in Whangarei, New Zealand..."
but instead this book is so much more than that! It truly feels like you are taking Keith's long and painful road to stardom with him! This book captures all that Keith has put into his career and his life. I strongly recommend this book to any Keith Urban fan!!
p.s. keith is so HOTTTT!!!
