2007-07-10 - I'm not a huge fan of Kelly but this is one of the few songs that I do like by her. This song is a well-written pop ballad with a good coming-of-age message.

2005-01-18 - Much like a previous reviewer, I too would turn away from listening to most, or all, teenie-pop music...especially songs by an artist that "Followed-Down-The-Idol-Brick-Road"! HOWEVER....when I first heard the song, "Breakaway" via radio...I too didn't even have the faintest notion that it may be from the gal whole "stole" America's heart, on that "Idol" show. (I have yet to watch even 1 single program of Idol.....oh just poo on me, why dont'cha!). At first I thought it was Avril Lavigne...on some sort of downer or slight sedative...then the song's "hooks"...the "catchy" lines...and the rhymes, really started to intrigue me and make me think. (Wow, imagine that, huh...?) The way the piece was written, crafted & "produced" was so reminiscent of styles from the late 70's/early 80's. Yes, sure...there was a full barf-bag of teen-pop/up-chuck on radio & in stores back then too...but heck...at least there were no drum machines, loop-tracks and highly & over-predictable sequencers, that churned out songs that resemble the extra-homogenized ooze of today. So I investigated "Breakaway", and to much my surprise, the song was produced by good 'ol fashion & old-school style, producer-extraordinaire Clive Davis...hence, the brain-power behind Carlos Santana's last two works, introducing young & promising talent on lead vocals! Davis' style is signature, pillar & non-compromising. He makes the term, "Having-A-Hit-Single" mean what it supposed to mean: "Wake up in the morning & go to work to create a real pop-song...in a unique way that no one else has ever done before...other than Davis himself." It is my hope that Kelly continues to be mentored & inspired by those who walk in the way of pop-music class & integrity.
Souful and inspiring
2004-12-15 - This single can be an anthem for anyone who decided their life needed to change direction and then actually made the move to BREAKAWAY and do it! I was never a fan of Kelly Clarkson, hearing her as just another here today gone tomorrow teen singer. But this song surprised me, in fact I didn't even know it was Ms. Clarkson singing till the DJ announced her name. Her sound is rich and soulful, the lyrics are both meaningful and memorable. What a great surprise! Her voice has matured from her first single, she's put forth a song that people of all ages can relate to. BREAKAWAY has now become my favorite new song! Thanks, Kelly, and best of luck with your new album.

2004-11-23 - Kelly Clarkson is a fantastic singer!!! Her song Breakaway is excellent. I loved it the first time I heard it! This is a great choice is your looking for some good music to listen to!
