  • Editorial Review:
Have yourself a very merry MuppetÂ? Christmas with this all-new holiday movie starring KermitÂ? the Frog, Miss PiggyÂ? and the whole MuppetÂ? gang Â? plus a celebrity cast featuring David Arquette, Joan Cusack and Whoopi Goldberg, with cameos by Matthew Lillard, William H. Macy, Carson Daly, Kelly Ripa, Joe Rogan, Molly Shannon and the cast of "Scrubs"! 'Tis the night before Christmas and the Muppet Theater is in danger of being torn down. And when bad goes to worse, Kermit begins to believe the world would be a better place if he'd never been born. But don't worry! With heavenly help and hilarious send-ups of just about every holiday movie ever made, Kermit and the Muppets discover what matters most is their love for each other.Featuring show-stopping musical numbers like "Moulin Scrooge!" (starring Miss Piggy as 'Saltine'), this "charming and clever" (The San Diego Union-Tribune) holiday classic will have the whole family laughing!

Description of It's a Very Merry Muppet Christmas Movie:
Kermit takes center stage in this hilarious, parody-laden celebration of Muppetry, pulsating with original music, a star-studded cast of human cameos, and a heartwarming story reminiscent of It's a Wonderful Life. Joan Cusack plays the deliciously villainous Miss Bitterman, a ruthless banker who succeeds in foreclosing on the Muppet Theatre only days before Kermit's Christmas extravaganza. As Kermit loses his livelihood, he plunges into the "I wish I'd never been born" mind-set instantly recognizable to George Bailey fans. It's going to take some Divine intervention (Whoopi Goldberg is cast as God, no less), plus a little help from a heavenly "Clarence." Despite some moments where the script seems adrift (how hard it must be to live up to the irresistible precedent set by the 1979 premier Muppet Movie) and some humor that borders on risqué, Fozzie and the gang are in fine form. The message is sweet: dreams are as vital to life as loyal friendships are to see them through. (Ages 5 and older) --Lynn Gibson

It's a Very Merry Muppet Christmas Movie Reviews:
Not age appropriate material 1 Star Review
2009-12-07 - I was very disappointed in this movie, as the whole plot was supposed to be similar to "A Wonderful Life" which my kids have not seen, so they did not even get the many references to that movie. On top of that there were references to "a topless bar" and the muppets were getting drunk at a party. It should've been a kids movie made for kids, instead they decided to throw a bunch of adult themes and jokes in there that were totally inappropriate. My kids really didn't even laugh that much!

fooled by the title 1 Star Review
2009-12-06 - I purchased this last year. Just opened it & watched it today. This is not what we thought it was. This was never a hit. I want the one with Fozzie's childhood home. This has very little of the Muppets. I didnt do enough research. This lloked like the right packaging but i was fooled. Thyis might as well go in the trash heap. I'd donate it to a children group but I dont want the kids to be crying & hating the Muppets.

Would give 0 stars if I could 1 Star Review
2009-12-01 - This movie should *not* be marketed towards children. If you are old and loved the Muppets from way back when, then you will enjoy this. I am a Muppetaholic, but I will not let my kids watch this one. A Muppet Family Christmas and a Muppet Christmas Carol are must sees, but please, don't let your kids watch this one. There is NO reason to put sexual innuendos in a family movie, ever! Very disappointing.

I have lost faith in you, Muppets... 2 Star Review
2009-06-04 - I always liked the Muppets. I wouldn't call myself a fan, but I always liked them.
Before this, I had seen four Muppet movies: The Muppet Christmas Carol, Muppets from Space, Muppets Treasure Island, and The Muppet Wizard of Oz. Oz was an absolute disgrace, one of the worst movies I have ever seen. This one may not be on quite the same level of awfulness, but it definitely marks the downfall of the Muppets.

The plot is slapped-together, poorly constructed, and composed mainly of pop culture references. The whole thing is basically a parody of It's a Wonderful Life, only not touching or thought-provoking or anything, just tacky.
There are unpleasant sexual references throughout the film that serve only to pander to today's sex-crazed society. It's sad that the Muppets have sunk down to this.

While The Muppet Christmas Carol will forever remain classic, I don't think this one will ever go beyond cult status. I watched it once, and do not plan to watch it again, and until Brian Henson comes to his senses, I will stick with the old Muppet material.

Good for kids 5 Star Review
2009-05-06 - This is a good movie for my kids! I love this movie!! A kiddy version of It's a Wonderful Life.
