Description of CinderElmo:
Our favorite little red monster is the star of this delightful film that playfully skews the story of Cinderella. Originally aired on Fox television in 1999, the feature is a playful mix of human actors and Sesame Street characters that is an easy watch for families with 3- to 7-year-olds. Cinderelmo (he's a boy, if you didn't know) dreams of playing in a castle and meeting the princess (Keri Russell). Unfortunately his mean--but not that mean--stepmother (Kathy Najimy) wants her two other sons to go to the ball at which the princess must declare whom she wishes to marry.
The film is certainly focused on the youngsters (as opposed to the slightly older audience of the Muppet films), but there are plenty of puns and wry humor for adults to enjoy. The handful of songs are quite pleasant, as is the length (50 minutes). Oliver Platt (as a new "fairy godperson") and French Stewart (as Cinderelmo's dog-turned-footman) enjoy their roles with relish. Appearing in various small roles are plenty of the Sesame Street gang, including Grover, Kermit, Cookie Monster, Bert, and Ernie. Great fun. --Doug Thomas
CinderElmo Reviews:
5 stars for cuteness!
2009-10-28 - This movie is another great addition to the collection of Elmo DVD's I've purchased for my two parrots. They love to watch movies and seem to like Sesame Street and especially like Elmo. They actually talk back to him when he says, "Hello". I find his voice a little annoying after a time, but I guess it's the animated voice with lots of different tones that they like. He's also a very lively character along with Grover, Kermit, Cookie Monster, Bert, and Ernie, the rest of the Sesame Street cast. The songs, as always in Sesame Street, are fun and entertaining.
The movie is 50 minutes long which is nice because many of the other Sesame Street movies are only half an hour. And as soon as the movie ends and the titles start to roll, the parrots start screaming for me to come and put on another movie. So longer is better. This is a particularly cute story based on Cinderella with lots of liberties taken with the story. The "people" actors, Keri Russell, Kathy Najimy, Caroll Spinney, French Stewart, Oliver Platt do a good acting job and make the movie entertaining even for adults. They interact well with the puppets making the whole thing sort of believable. It seems like the sort of movie that children without feathers (as in human children) would enjoy too. It's colorful, has lots of movement and characters with cute voices who talk to the kids (or parrots) and get them involved in the story. I think that is one of the reasons the birds stay interested in Sesame Street, whereas they often ignore cartoons after a while and go off to some other area of their room and play with toys. With this movie they sit on the perches closest to the screen and actually watch for a long time.
I'm sure this will become one of the favorites in the Sesame Street collection and Elmo is endearing, as always. Two thumbs up!

2009-06-14 - This is a well done variation on the Cinderella tale with the Muppets and live actors. The fairygodperson is a real kick. My kids and I both enjoyed this.
My kids love this movie!
2009-01-19 - This movie was my daughter's favorite when she was younger -- I had to play it over and over again. Now my son asks for it constantly. The movie holds up -- my daughter will still watch it with her brother and not complain. Luckily, the tunes are catchy and it has a great cast. You can't go wrong with Sesame Street.

Go Elmo!
2008-08-30 - This is a nice blending of humans with the Sesame Street characters with Keri Russell as the princess and French Stewart acting as Cinderelmo's footman. It lasts about 50 minutes and has some nice songs to delight the children. Our 3-year-old grandchild loves Elmo and enjoyed this little romp.
