    Description of The Lost Boys:
This 1987 thriller was a predictable hit with the teen audience it worked overtime to attract. Like most of director Joel Schumacher's films, it's conspicuously designed to push the right marketing and demographic buttons, and granted, there's some pretty cool stuff going on here and there. Take Kiefer Sutherland, for instance. In Stand by Me he played a memorable bully, but here he goes one step further as a memorable bully vampire who leads a tribe of teenage vampires on their nocturnal spree of bloodsucking havoc. Jason Patric plays the new guy in town, who quickly attracts a lovely girlfriend (Jami Gertz), only to find that she might be recruiting him into the vampire fold. The movie gets sillier as it goes along, and resorts to a routine action-movie showdown, but it's a visual knockout (featuring great cinematography by Michael Chapman) and boasts a cast that's eminently able (pardon the pun) to sink their teeth into the best parts of an uneven screenplay. --Jeff Shannon

An 80's horror hit that has never looked better. 5 Star Review
2008-08-29 - For those who are in their mid to late 30's, we all have our ties to the 80's. Some love that decade as I do, and some want to forget it. When it comes to 80's films, I have a special love for them. They symbolize my high school years and make me remember the best times of my life. The Lost boys was one of my all time favorites. At least one of the most watched anyway. The Corey's were hot in that decade and were never really better than in Lost Boy's. Not only was it a funny horror movie, it had a very cool soundtrack and great vibe to it. Though it is outdated now, it still holds up well for pure entertainment value.

That being said, this title has never looked better. It is the best looking tranfer you can get. First off, the film looks very clean. The artifacts and grain have been removed. Giving it a very fresh and clean look. It looks better than many Blu's that are 10+ years newer. The colors are vivid and bright. The blacks are very deep and stable throughout the entire film. It has that 3 dimentional pop to it. I was very surprised and happy to see it look so good. The fleshtones are right on. The detail of skin textures is amazing. Seing details of a movie that you have seen dozens and dozens of times is a nice surprise after 20 years. Everything is in focus and very sharp from beginning to end. Couldn't ask for anything more. Day and night scenes are equally impressive.

The sound is great also. Though actuall sound effects do not play a huge part of the movie. The soundtrack is awesome. The songs are very clean and clear. Some of the action sequences give your surround system a bit of a workout. The subwoofer really only shows up a few times. The voices are clean and clear. About as good as you could ask for.

Their are some cool extras. Commentary with extra scenes. Featurettes, photo gallery, Music video for " Lost in the shadows ", an interactive map, theatrical trailer, Vamping out: The undead creations of Greg Cannon, and the return of Sam and the Frog Brothers.

There are a handfull of films from the 80's that I have seen to many times to count. It is alway's nice to see them show up in such great condition without alway's being a 100 million dollar blockbuster. They did just that. Couldn't get any better than this.

Burn Rubber Does Not Mean Warp Speed! 5 Star Review
2008-08-28 - I remember winning free tickets to this movie when I was a teenager. It rocked then and still rocks now. It was slick, ultra cool, and dark just like any good vampire movie should be. While this may not be a "classic" film, it's definitely a cult classic. And let's not forget the soundtrack which I still play to this day. And as for the recent sequel (Lost Boys, The Tribe), all I can I say is "Cry Little Sister."

    A Satisfying Horror-Fantasy Flick (Rating: 3.5 of 5) 3 Star Review
2008-08-13 - Far from being a perfect film, or even great for that matter, it is none the less a movie that will live on. As with anything, time can be very revealing. But things that seem pretentious and awkward now, were felt wholly different circa '87. But that happens with any film as it dates, and that is not the reason why I give it a 3.5 rather than a 4 or 4.5 (on to that later).

Whatever its faults, this film has a lot going for it, including a stellar cast. This film, as you should know, set off the careers of many talented people. As good a director Joel is, there was certainly potential to screw this one up bad, had Jason Patric or even Kiefer Sutherland been miscast (or not cast).

More on the positive, is the sheer atmosphere of this film. We CAN certainly thank Joel for his awesome direction there. Because, really, anything is tolerable with great visuals and tonality. Also, typically, it is very tough to cross-genre in a movie like this. It has been done before, but rarely to this amount of success. This film flips back and forth suitably between drama, horror, adult-romance and slap stick. Thank Joel and the cast equally.

My quibble is that this film tends to feel too rushed near the end. I read somewhere that they didn't have a lot of time, but even so. Laying it all on so thick at the end, for me, made it feel ham-fisted. It is ham-fisted, heavy-handed, etc. I guess I could've done with a little less slap-stick, so to speak. But, whatever...

This is still a groundbreaking film for its time. There was very little of that kind of imagery going on pre-Lost era '87. Visually this film is intense.

I liked it. I recommend it.

Love this movie! 5 Star Review
2008-08-04 - I've loved this movie since I was a teenager, and watching it again as an adult, it is still a great movie!
