  • Editorial Review:
Go wild with the hysterical adventure the New York Daily News calls "truly infectious!" Disney uncages the laughs in the hip and hilarious comedy THE WILD. When a band of furry friends escape from the city zoo, they discover that New York City is the biggest, craziest jungle of all. Now, faced with a new journey and the challenge of a lifetime, they must work together if they are going to survive on the outside. THE WILD is ferocious fun that will have your whole family roaring with laughter.

    Description of The Wild:
A cuddly koala who wants to be fierce, a squirrel in love with a sarcastic giraffe, an addle-pated anaconda, and a lion with a secret set off from their cozy zoo to rescue the lion's adolescent cub from an accidental kidnapping. After braving the dangers of the big city and stealing a boat, they find themselves in the African jungle, where a renegade herd of wildebeest have decided they want to change their position on the food chain (understandable, really). The Wild is hodgepodge--it's never clear why these mismatched creatures are friends and plot elements seem haphazardly plucked from Finding Nemo, Madagascar, and Ice Age: The Meltdown (though the latter two were made at the same time as The Wild, so it's just unfortunate for this movie that they came out first). Despite a general air of manic desperation, The Wild does have its strengths: The animation is richly realistic, leading to some gorgeous depictions of light (not exactly a selling point for kids, but adults can appreciate it). Several characters pop out--a pair of sewer crocodiles sound like NPR's Car Talk guys; William Shatner (Star Trek, Boston Legal) is effectively scary as the cult-leader/choreographer of the wildebeest; and comedian Eddie Izzard lends some of his trademark smart and silly humor to Nigel, the disgruntled koala bear. Successful bits and pieces don't make for a great movie, but they keep The Wild from the brink of disaster. --Bret Fetzer

    The Wild Reviews:
Timidity and conservation--no lyin', the wild is dyin' 3 Star Review
2009-12-13 - Did you ever pop in a video for a sick child in order to, you hope, get a chance for a nap? Well, enter "The Wild," which I had seen on the local library shelf. Apart from some strange storyline--wildebeests about to eat lion meat for the first time because they were prodded to by William Shatner--there is absolutely nothing memorable about this movie. It is a poor excuse for passing the time--and it definitely prevents naps.

About the only redeeming feature in it, and I think that this is stretching it, is the fact that a child might begin to ask questions about 'the wild.' Wilderness is indeed passing away before our eyes, and it might be a worthwhile exercise in environmental ethics to begin to communicate that to children. However, the movie ends with, if I can remember the order of the drivel correctly, the animals turning back (willingly) for the zoo.

Finally, it is with this movie that I began to realize something: the more Disney I see, the more the formula seems to come out. Begin with animals that talk. Create story-line about parent-child conflict. Enter bad animals. Friends who serve as comic relief waver because of weak characters or intellects. Family triumphs over the bad animals and helps weak friends become strong. Point about conservation then deliberately lost in sales of plastic toys.

Oh, and by the way, if you are looking for strong girl characters in the film, you are lucky if you find one. And she is forced to kiss a squirrel. Yecch.

    Cartoon movie 5 Star Review
2009-12-10 - This cartoon movie was so cute and adorable. And more with that my daughter loves to watch zoo animals.

The Wild? More like send this piece of junk back to the Wild!! 1 Star Review
2009-12-04 - This movie is so bad!! The animation does not look like it belongs in the Walt Disney Productions and the acting is very bad!!! Here is what I think:

Well...one afternoon, I came back from church and I decided to check what was on televison. I saw this peice of poo on and a memory chip triggered in my mind. "Hey, haven;'t I see this train-wreck of a movie in commercials a few years ago?" I thought to myself...Oh well....I decided to burn my eyes off watching this horrible movie!! 6 WORDS---THIS MOVIE IS NOT FUN-EE!!! IT IS NEITHER FUN OR FUNNY... It is just boring and none of the people can act.

The movie was just pure cheese. The animals wre the most ugliest excuses of drugged wild animals I have ever seen!!! Do not watch this movie if you want to watch a box office bomb--low buget-Finding Nemo (which sucks by the way)immitation!! All the jokes have been done before and I did not laugh once...I DIDN'T EVEN SMILE!!! THIS MOVIE IS SOOOOOOO BAD THAT I WOULD RATHER WATCH ANTZ FOR 3 EXTRA MINUTE THEN VOMIT IN THE BATHROOM!!! This movie just disappeared!! I just like saw 3 commercials of this movie and they took it off the televion!!! (I'm not complaining because this movie is as interesting as watching paint dry!!!!)

Anyway....The characters were unrealistic, undeveloped, stupid, and darnright cheesy!! NO ONE CAN ACT AND THE JOKES ARE AS FUNNY AS...WELL....IT'S SO BAD THERE IS NOT ANYTHING WORSE TO COMPARE IT TO!!!

ONE FINAL NOTE---IT SUCKS!!! DON'T BUY IT!! I SUGGEST YOU RENT IT THEN THROW IT BACK TO WHERE IT CAME FROM-THE TITLE OF THE MOVIE--THE WILD!!!!!!

    -5/5!!!

one of the few movies I don't get sick of having to watch over and over with the kids 5 Star Review
2009-10-23 - When my kids find a movie they like it's usually the only thing they want to watch for a long time and this is one of the few movies that I end up watching over and over that doesn't end up getting on my nerves like alot of other movies will.
The characters are perfectly animated, the voices fit well and the movie goes well with the soundtrack also with a good story line and will keep the kids attention.

My son loves it 4 Star Review
2009-09-13 - Bought movie after watching it on tv my son is so fascinated by lions and all other zoo animals he loves his madagascar movies so bought this to add to his movie library he loves all the characters and knows the dialogue word by word impressive for a toddler. he loves it that all taht matters in my book
