Editorial Review:
The "Chronicles" box sets are specially selected original albums presented in a book-style long box. Each album was selected to symbolize a classic period for the artist. Each disc includes original CD booklet.
Titles in this set include: "KISS," "Hotter Than Hell," and "Dressed To Kill".
Chronicles Reviews:
chronicle update...
2008-07-01 - This re-issue 2005 version is a re-master. People have been suspicious of this because it keeps comin' out every few years and the original issue was just the plain old albums, but you can be sure this is a good one. These 3 classic Kiss recordings should be enjoyed back to back anyway, so this makes for a great package. And a money saver I've seen this as cheap as 7.00 sealed, and with only 1 shipping charge this is the way to go.A great picture on the front of the box, than on the inside you get the three colorful remastered cd's and a little insert of each album cover and all the song and recording info inside each one. Nothing to complain about. If you already have these, fine! Dont complain, this was perfect for me and anyone that did'nt buy these yet on cd. Everybody knows this is the holy trilogy of Kiss. The band was hungry and pumped up to conquer the world. I heard people say these are weak recordings compared to the live versions. Not true at all these were fully realized and rockin' songs, only lacking in studio production because of the times and budget, first album was done in 1973 and for a debut I think they did a good job capturing these sleazy rock anthems. If you need to start a remastered Kiss collection start here and work your way up to "Love Gun"...
3 amazing albums but why do we need this set
2007-12-31 - ok 1st off i was never going to buy this set. but shopping at 3am at wal mart makes you do crazy things. i was looking at music dvds and this cd set was in there thanks to their dedicated employees for noticing the difference between cds and dvds lol. but they had it marked at 14 bucks and i thought it be nice to keep it in my car. so i open this generic case that cost 3 cents to print up and 3 cds and 3 inserts fall out of this cracked plastic cd holder. so now i got 3 left over 97 remastered cds and inserts lying on my floor. this set would have been cool if they used the old kiss originals cover and made the package a little better like a digipack or something and include a nice booklet like the alive box set. but poor planning and packaging make this a worthless addition to someones kiss collection. and like on the alive box set where they crammed alive 1 and 2 on 1 cd each the first album and hotter than hell could have easily mae it on 1 cd. but this is just left over remaster cds that didnt sell slapped in a crappy box.
awesome c.ds ,
2006-01-02 - First of all this is just a re-release of the `76 `the originals but they changed the cover to make it somehow different.I am an huge kiss fan but there is nothing for me here, its mostly for those who dont own one of these begening albums. If you dont have one of these c.d than go ahead buy it its great value as two of these c.ds can cost over 30$.The albums included are`kiss`hotter than hell`(if this one is not remastered you`l have problems with the sound)and`dressed to kill`.I dont know if they are remastered. If its 1997 then its remastered.Overall this more an attemp at making money as they got too many compilation thats what i beleve.
overall;good value but again an attemp at making more money.the music earns five stars the set im not sure but still its a good value. You cant find a better price.if youre looking for new stuff its the wrong place, instead try the kiss rock the nation dvd or wait for paul stanley`s new album to come out.Lots of my rewiwes are kiss rewiews.
still sounds good
2005-11-20 - it's now official. . .
KISS HAS BECOME THE BEST EVER KISS TRIBUTE BAND on the planet.
the music still holds up and it is good in whatever package you want to put it in . . but if you want to hear something new you wont get it from KISS... until you stop buying these things, you will never get anything new from this band . . . .
What???
2005-10-15 - "Chronicles"(2005). A KISS box set.
One of the ultimate hard rock acts of all time has proven themselves to be,by far,KISS. Gene Simmons,Paul Stanley,Ace Frehley, and Peter Criss have written some of the most important songs in the history of rock and roll--the only problems are all of the KISS compilations that keep getting left behind, the fact that KISS hasn't put out any new, original material since 1998(the "Psycho Circus" album),and also that Ace Frehley and Peter Criss are both gone from KISS again after KISS' long awaited 1996 reunion tour. And now,a KISS box set entitled "Chronicles" has been released. Read on for my review of this:
PROS:
KISS' first three albums are all here:their self-titled debut album(1974),"Hotter Than Hell"(1974),and "Dressed To Kill"(1975),and it is nice to see a KISS box set that isn't a compilation.
This box set has a booklet accompanying it,with the liner notes for the three albums that are in this box set.
You can find this box set in stores.
CONS:
The sound on the discs for the albums here have NOT been digitally remastered, and the sound on these three albums sold seperately when they were re-issued and re-released did have digitally remastered sound on the tracks.
There are no bonus tracks on the albums here.
This is a repackage of KISS' "The Orignals" box set that came out in July 1976. Was this box set really needed, especially with a different cover on the box set and a different title for it,when the albums here were re-issued not too long ago?
OVERALL:
This box set does have some positive points to it,but I recommend you shell out your cash and get the albums that are in this box set seperately. They feauture digitally remastered sound and liner notes about the band written inside the CD cover(which is where you take the CD out at),and they aren't last minute cash in attempts like this is(they are also more complete than this set is,considering the fact that the sound on the discs here was not digitally remastered).I have one thing to say about this box set:do it right,or don't do it at all, especially since KISS fans keep getting left behind with the same stuff over and over again. I am aware of the fact that "Chronicles" box sets are released for several bands this same way;however,if you are going to release a box set of KISS albums, either release the set of albums with bonus tracks,or don't bother releasing the set.
