2005-12-14 - this album is, in my humble opinion, perfect. it's like reading a really good book late at night. you know you have to work early the next day but it just sucks you so far into it's atmoshphere with jamie's incredible storytelling abilities and the band's musical wizardry that you can't turn it off. the album just simply works. there's not a dull track although the standouts have to be "everything begins and ends at exactly the right time" (which has my favourite guitar solo of all time), "slow train to a comfy jail" and "cross purpose" (with some incredibly twisted lyrics). rarely a day goes by where i don't listen to this album, it's just too good not to. my favourite album, should be yours.

2005-11-28 - If you've never heard BBK, you have no idea what you're missing out on... It's dark, it's dense, it's fronted by the best songwriter in existence (oh i know many, many others will think differently, but this is my review, and that's what i think.. ). But don't listen to me, i could be deranged. Do yourself a favour and listen to some BBK for yourself.

Everything begins and ends at exactly the right time...
2005-06-12 - ...bellows Jamie Hutchings just before the distorted guitars and footstomps come to their gobsmacking climax, that comprises the last 2 minutes of the lead-off single from the Sydney based quartet. and it would be difficult to argue with such a statement, given the timeliness of the album's release. what with albums from the likes of bands such as Jet and The Vines seemingly being the only aussie bands which really seem to be getting any kind of acclaim from the press these days, its definately a good time for people to start taking notice of a group that REALLY knows what their doing as far as songwriting and musicianship goes.
on this (their fifth full length) album, BBK set the mood, and not only manage to hold that mood for the entire duration of the disc, but swing it all the way from very very high, to very very low and just about every point in between the two extremes.
take opening track scouthall for e.g. which like some hazy mirage, shimmering far off in the distance, beckons for us to come take a closer look. after a few steps toward that dim light, we are greeted by the melancholic ho-humming of an accordian backdropped against the bright, precise picking of a steel string guitar. added to this are the anguished vocals of Hutchings, which start us on our way.
then along come those ominous footstomps and claps which precipitate the opening of "Everything begins.......".
oh man i really think i should just cut it with all this poetic "journey" nonsense, most people have probably already stopped reading by now! but if you are still reading, then thats great, i wont keep you too long, ill just say that this album is testament that there are aussie bands out there who really do deserve your attention, and this is one of them! this album is fantastic! album of the year even! listen to it now! i beg you!
