A few curiosities appear as well, such as "Sure Know Something" and "I Was Made for Lovin' You" (they're far more disco-oriented than you might remember) and a newly recorded version of "Shout It Out Loud" taken from their 1996 tour. This review will probably seem silly
2009-11-15 - I feel that this is a great compilation for listening to a few times before seeing KISS Unplugged because this one has the big hits that they performed there. I personally feel that it also has some other KISS songs that I really like, but don't have on other albums. Actually the only one of those songs that I don't have on any other album is "Two Sides of the Coin." However, this was the first KISS album I got, and to be honest it was somewhat disappointing because the only time I had heard "Beth" before hearing this album was what they showed on VH1's 100 Greatest Love Songs, and for that, they used the Unplugged version, so I was disappointed that it didn't have the guitar solo, but I bought unplugged a little while later. The other disappointment for me was that "Rock and Roll All Nite" didn't have the guitar solo that I had heard another time I had heard it, but I then bought The Very Best of KISS, probably my personal favorite KISS compilation that I have. However, it's the only KISS compilation I have other than this one. There are six tunes here that aren't on the other one, and there are two tracks with different versions on each compilation, and the preferable versions (in my personal opinion) are both on The Very Best of KISS. Those two tunes are "Rock and Roll All Nite" (they used the studio version here), and "Shout It Out Loud" (they did a live version from the reunited line-up here). There are eleven songs on that compilation that aren't on this one. The songs here that aren't on the other one are "Sure Know Something," "Do You Love Me?" "Cold Gin," "Plaster Caster," "Flaming Youth," and "Two Sides of the Coin." In general, I would definitely say that you'll probably want The Very Best of KISS if you want a good KISS compilation to start out with, but after just listening to this one, I'm starting to think differently. However, it's not that bad to turn this compilation down, and I think that the fact that it's not available in CD form is a good enough excuse to turn down getting this one.

More Compilations
2009-10-02 - First off, I am a HUGE KISS fan, I absolutely love them! I have every cd, dvd, EVERYTHING they put out. But like some others, I get a little tired of all the best of, or compilations. What is the purpose of reissuing the same classics over and over? Finally we have the new SONIC BOOM coming out. Regardless I have and will continue to uy everything they put out, simply because I LOVE KISS. Oh and ACE PLEASE COME BACK!

Some great songs - but many better songs excluded...
2007-08-13 - Overall it is a good collection, but I was surprised by some of the songs chosen. If the price is under $10 it is a good value...

Not heavy Metal
2007-05-11 - Upon listening to this compilation it is clear that KISS are not a hair metal band, This is all classic rock in the simplest form very basic guitar chords/riffs BUT so effective and the bass line in a number of the songs really sets these APART FROM POISON ETC.

The Best "Greatest Kiss"
2006-06-22 - Greatest Kiss was released in several different versions. By my count, there are 4 (5...if you include the British Polygram "Greatest Hits" CD) different track listings. If this is a KISS CD that you would like to own, and if you only want 1 version of it, shell out the extra cash, and go with the Japanese version. I give this one the highest marks of the "Greatest Kiss" CDs for weighing in at 20 tracks and including the original, studio version of "Rock Bottom." "Rock Bottom" is the best song that Ace Frehley ever wrote, it contains some of his best guitar work, and it is one of the band's most underrated songs. Also, while most of the KISS "Best-Of" sets (there are a TON of them out there!) do not contain the song lyrics in their booklets, this one does...in both English and Japanese. In short, if you want 1 single KISS CD, this is the one to go with. If you're a fan of KISS or Classic Hard Rock, or if you're discovering either for the first time, pick this disc up. You won't be disappointed.
