Editorial Review:
With its membership dwindling down to a scant three members, Korn seems to have come to something of a crossroads––move forward with its tried and true sound or evolve into something that may only vaguely resemble the hype and heft behind Follow the Leader. 2007's somewhat unexpected Unplugged disc proved an interesting but flawed step in a different direction but this self-titled/untitled offering clumsily fumbles when it should grab the ball and run for a season-defining touchdown. "Hold On" and "Do What They Say" come off as soggy sonic oatmeal; "Kiss" channels a very dark Smashing Pumpkins to mixed results; "Bitch We Got a Problem" gives away its best stuff in the title; "Innocent Bystander" and "Starting Over" have three or four great ideas that never reach fruition and the rest of the album ("Killing," "Hushabye") proves fairly forgettable, a sign that Korn may be closer to crumbling than anyone could have imagined. That's too bad 'cause time was it had the makings of a pretty good American band. ––Jedd Beaudoin
Untitled Reviews:
Ready for the evolution
2009-10-30 - Privileged to own. Many of these tracks rank among my favorites. Whatever direction they want to go, I support it.
Every Korn Album Wrapped Into One
2009-10-10 - After SYOTOS I wasn't sure what Korn was trying to accomplish. They had suddenly turned from dark and miserable to catchy and almost poppy. At that time I left more embarrassed to be a Korn fan than anything else. The other fans they began to attract didn't help either.
Having abandoned my radio for years I bought this album the day it came out without having heard any of the songs. I even walked to the store while I was sick just to buy it. Korn was a major part of my life (especially the Follow The Leader era) growing up and I still had hope in the band. I was not going to give up on them just yet. Im glad I didn't.
The remaining members of Korn seem to have reflected back on all their previous works creating a musical collage and woven it together with a new attitude. The result is an "evolved" Korn. Different, yet still the same.
Personally I only have one complaint about the album. That is the vocals. They seem to be more forced and lack the sarcastic slur and psychotic laugh behind his voice. It set Davis apart from every other vocalist. This could simply be the years of vocals paying its toll.
Nevertheless, it is still a solid album and should be appreciated by all generations of Korn fans.
By no means a great album
2009-08-12 - Korn can do way better than this. Sure there are good songs on here, I listen to them all the time, but most of thr songs are kind of unlistenable. This is not the Korn I remember.
Ghostly, Hauntingly Awesome
2009-08-12 - I've been a advid KoRn fan ever since I was in middle school. This album was a enjoyable release from their usual heavy riffs and it has a definite atmospheric and almost ghostly feel to it. It's still heavy, very heavy, but even on the first track they managed to blend heavy with a haunting lull torwards the end that brings tears to my eyes. The first track on the album "Starting Over" has to do with the near death experience that Johnathan Davis experienced. The got Terry Bozzio to play drums on this album and he definitely gives it a little something different. I advise to get the deluxe bonus edition with the extra DVD and album work. They are down to three members and I hope to see them reunited on stage again someday. This album is a MUST BUY! Please don't illegally download KoRn's music, they worked very hard to get this album off the ground and they need your support.
"Hold on..bee strong"
2009-08-07 - Don't lose faith in KoRn guys! Yes any TRUE KORN fan like me will tell you
that their last 2 albums were horrible and Take a look in the mirror was mediocre.
But their new album will sound like the "older" KoRn that we all grew to love.
Jonathan davis isn't getting into the sound, Ross Robinson (producer of Korns first 2 albums)
and the rest of the band will create the sound. Even Jonathan said they are going for an old school
sound that people can bang their heads to and go wild. Come on..have some faith, this next album should win
us Solid Korn fans over again. This might be their last chance ,pleeease dont f*** it up
