Editorial Review:
Peter (Jason Segel) is a struggling musician who finds his world turned upside down when his TV celebrity girlfriend, Sarah Marshall (Kristen Bell), dumps him for a tragically hip rock star. It’s the hysterically funny look at how far one man will go to forget a girl – and all the fun he finds along the way!
Description of Forgetting Sarah Marshall (Unrated Widescreen Edition):
Breaking up is hard to do--but that doesn't mean you can't have some belly laughs about it. Forgetting Sarah Marshall provides that rare treat: a romantic comedy about breakups, that is both romantic and funny. The laughs, especially from writer-star Jason Segel, are both heartfelt and raunchy, and the film is just unexpected enough that it keeps the viewer's attention till the end. The touches of producer Judd Apatow, who's famously retooled rom-coms to appeal to guys as much as women, are woven throughout the film, but Segel's script, reportedly based on many of his own experiences, is fresh and original. And adult. Forgetting Sarah Marshall features male genitalia laffs presented in unexpected and human ways (the nude breakup scene is played for giggles but also deep poignancy), and the language and sex scenes are strictly for grownups--and rightly so. Segel's script, and his performance as Peter, show that he understands the true nature of adult re! lationships, which provides the refreshing difference between this film and some of Apatow's other crude creations. The cast is sublime; Kristen Bell (Veronica Mars) plays title character Sarah, a self-absorbed actress, and Russell Brand is her new British honey who accompanies her to--what are the chances?--the exact same Hawaiian resort as Peter, who's nursing his broken heart. Mila Kunis plays Rachel, the resort employee who gives Peter a reason to hope, and Paul Rudd is the surfing instructor who gives him his own brand of heartfelt advice ("When life gives you lemons, just say 'F--- the lemons' and bail," he says cheerily). The pacing is screwball, and the absurdities fly (a "Dracula" musical puppet show, and a surprisingly lovely Hawaiian version of "Nothing Compares 2 U"). Nothing the viewer will forget any time soon.--A.T. Hurley

Judd Apatow is a terrible writer; thank god he did not write this wonderful film!
2009-12-06 - I get the people complaining about Judd Apatow. I don't get how they could hate this film simply because he produced it.
First of all, I'm not a fan of Apatow. I hated Superbad super badly (everything about that movie made me cringe; especially the not-at-all-impressive acting by nerd-typecast Michael Cera). Knocked Up was a ridiculous piece of crap--- a completely forced comedy. Step Brothers and Anchorman were awful despite the fact that I love Will Ferell. 40-Year-Old Virgin and Fun With Dick and Jane are his obviously failed attempt to attract comedy-genre lovers using big names like Steve Carrell and Jim Carrey.
With that said, I love Forgetting Sarah Marshall. It is a well-written, catchy comedy that will have you laughing the entire time. The antics of each character are well honed and I think the over-all chemistry among the male characters are the funnest to watch. Sure, some of the jokes are overly sexual but to be honest, I was more focused on how disciplined were the deliveries of punchlines. From the simple "you sound like you're from London" to the exacerbated Dracula Song--- all of it made me laugh.
Funny!
2009-12-03 - Great movie! My husband and I still laugh about some of the parts of the movie.
Hysterical! Love Jason Segel!
2009-11-29 - This movie I have had to watch over and over! Jason Segel is SO FUNNY! The whole movie kept my attention and it was laugh after laugh! You have to get the unrated version and watch the other version, not the theaterical. This dvd gives 2 versions of the film. I love the scene where he is doing yoga and attempting a head stand! Hysterical! This Jason Segel is a big break out star from this movie and I really look forward to seeing him in more films.
best movie ever.
2009-11-25 - This film is amazing, and that's and understatement. Anyone who gives this less than 5 stars is crazy. so good.
Apatos produces another funny one.
2009-11-14 - A funny movie that brings russel brand to the masses and it's funny from start to finish.
