Editorial Review:
Scottish singer-songwriter KT Tunstall burst onto the public consciousness last year with her gritty debut album Eye to the Telescope, a provocative sonic mesh of heartfelt pop, rootsy, electric blues, and left-field alt-rock. Eye spawned three hit singles — the Grammy-Award nominated "Black Horse and the Cherry Tree," "Suddenly I See," and "Other Side of the World" — all of which became omnipresent on radio, television, movies, and the Internet. Thanks to the multi-media exposure, Eye is certified platinum in the U.S., with worldwide sales exceeding 3.5 million copies.
Now Tunstall is readying her follow-up, entitled Drastic Fantastic, which will be released by Virgin Records on September 18th, 2007. It showcases the 31-year-old's growth as both a songwriter and musician on songs like the thumping "Hold On," the rollicking "Saving My Face," the jazz-inflected "Someday Soon," and the frisky pop gem "I Don’t Want You Now." "I wanted to be braver," Tunstall says of the album. "I wanted to push the musicality. You can't let previous success scare you away from moving on."

Drastic Fantastic (CD/DVD) Reviews:
Absolutely Fantastic - Must Have!
2008-01-29 - This is one of the best specials you can buy. The Bonus DVD is fantastic because of the documentaire "All You Need Is Mud" on it. They show you amazing Kate-childhood memories and the making of the video Hold On. In between there are acoustic performances around a campfire and she and her band are doing an amazing job, it sound perfect.
Next to the Bonus DVD, of-course, there is the CD, which is also fantastic. Compared to Eye to the Telescope (CD+DVD) this album sounds more like a studio album to me somehow, more electric guitar usage, but it's still amazing. The lyrics blow me away, stunning. Her voice and guitar make it perfect, I'm looking forward to her live performance, and her third studio album of-course. :-)
So: If you're not really a KT fan, buy the "normal" album. IT's also drastic fantastic. If you're a fan, GOSH, GET THIS ALBUM! The bonus features really show the Kate Tunstall she is.
Special edition's recommended!
Good!
2008-01-28 - Not nearly as good as "Eye to the Telescope" but, if you liked it you will like this one too. It's more pop and definitely not as "inspired" as the Telescope cd. I recommend this only if you already have "Telescope", get "Telescope" before this one. It kind of seems like "Drastic Fantastic" was put together in a hurry to capitalize on the success of KT's first cd. There are too many repetitive lyrics unlike the first cd, which has more depth of meaning and feeling. I found it to be less dynamic, less emotional than "Eye to the Telescope". I liked the DVD better than the cd in this set. The around the campfire acoustic sets on the DVD are a must have for KT fans. I hope KT unleashes her voice again on her next project and abandons the Drastic direction. She has so much more potential than this. I give "Drastic" 4 stars in comparison to "Telescope" which I think was an incredible work of art.
KT with a great follow-up!
2007-10-21 - KT Tunstall follows up the brilliant Eye to the Telescope with this equally listen-to-able LP!
A massive fan of the first - the latter had high expectations to meet. It appears that these expectations have been met and the tracks from Drastic Fantastic quickly will be working their way up my 'most played'!
The DVD containing a nice little doco containing some live versions of songs from Drastic Fantastic is a good view!
Get to know Ms. Tunstall
2007-09-29 - I didn't watch the DVD for this set until today, and I reviewed the CD the day I got it under the CD alone category.
I won't rehash what I said about the CD in detail... So let me just say this.
The music is excellent. The lyrics are amazing. The musicianship is fabulous.
So... Why kick in the extra for the "Deluxe Edition"?
I don't know what it's like where you live, but this kind of music is mostly ignored where I live. So here is a chance to get up close and personal with this amazing artist. Included on the DVD is a comic that I just didn't get, but what I did get was the interviews and documentary with Ms. Tunstall, as well as a very cool set of unplugged performances of some of her songs.
If you are a fan, this set makes for a must have collectors item, and for those who are mostly uninitiated, this is a great introduction to this exceptional performer and her band.
get the deluxe version!
2007-09-21 - I was initially disappointed that the DVD does not include the "Hold On" video, but, the acoustic campfire songs included in the "All You Need Is Mud" documentary are well worth the price. So far, I like those better than the new album. It includes an acoustic performance of the Chaka Khan hit "Ain't Nodoby," which is almost worth $20 by itself.
